Is there a device to connect the DS to a PC (linux preferably)?
I can't seem to find one.

well actually it can't be possible unless you know about hacking and all that stuff because the DS & DSi only have a port and it is the power port so only energy could possibly pass through it. But we never know if a hombre could get them connect by wifi. A question, Why do want to connect the DS to your PC?

most of the homebrew apps around to do this don't work at all.

I mainly want to do this for the fun of it, to learn how stuff works, etc.

What if it was interfaced through the DS card slot? Or with a flash card in through the SD slot?

I have succesfully connected by ds to several computers using win2ds, but not linux. I dont think there is a server for linux. you could try running the server with wine, see if that works, but i dunno if it will.
