So we got a pink 3ds for the young one and this one we are putting parental controls on as she may press the wrong thing.

I recall parental controls blocking system update in settings or through the game cartridges. But when I activate parental controls I tested it by going to system update and it will allow me to go straight to it without prompting for the pin. But when I go to format memory it asks for the pin. That is how I would like the system update selection to function as well.

Anyone know what might need to be done?

Well I guess I will try the 4.x downgraded Mset then instead of 6.x to see if it works. But does anyone recall on a 4.5 and below 3ds if parental controls blocked these situations:

1) Cartridge with a update higher than sysnand
2) Update Nag asking to update
3) System settings update - this is what I think you are referring to in 4.5 and below so wanted to ask of the above 2.

If no one knows I will test this this weekend to change out the 6.x for 4.x and report back.

Thanks

yeah parental controls only blocks updates on 3.x or lower, once you update to 4.x+ system updates are not blocked by parental controls
I don't think this can be correct, otherwise there wouldn't have been all that advice floating around to turn on parental controls before 9.2 support came. It would have been useless given Gateway didn't work on 3.x or lower.

yep and the advice was useless
-System update function is no longer restricted by Parental Controls

people just read "parental controls block system updates", which was outdated info and just went with it, setting parental controls never stopped system updates on 4.x

i think the only thing i can "kinda" help to block updates with would be blocking someone setting up a wifi connection in sysnand, but if the system connects to a nintendo zone it will still get a update and it wont stop that or on cart updates

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
