Hey all. Basic question.

When installing updates, does the ps4 keep a duplicate of the files? So keeping the base game package files while diverting to the updated files like it does for disk based games? Or does it overwrite the base files that are updated via the update pkg?

Just looking to save some space by maybe using tools (if available) to merge pkgs together and save ps4 installed hdd space

Thanks!

updates and base games are stored separately. what you're asking is called a delta pkg. you can do this, yes. you can even merge them together, but be careful that you don't mess something up. however, this is not really recommended. I don't know the exact reason, but that's what devs have said. btw, the games, patches, and dlc are stored in the user partition. the names are the same as the vita: app, addcont, and patch

Got it! Seems like such a waste. Like of course for disk based games you need the entire copy of the patch which makes sense but what possible sense does it make to keep the original base game files if they are replaced?
