Guys...Im in real dilemma here.
So I've got 20 bucks to burn on one game.
Id love to play 2 player couch with my other half and I like competitive games.
I never played any of these games (why no demos Nintendo?) so I seriously have no clue which to get.
What do you guys think?

Rocket league

Rocket league is the slightly better game but it won't be fun if you will be better than your other half and you will win every game 10 -0. Then the coop gameplay of overcooked would be the better choice.

I would just go for Rocket League, it's local multiplayer will make you crack a smile or two (sadly though, local multiplayer is dying in favor of Online multiplayer on recent games :()

Now that I think of it... Did OP not care to mention anything about their other halfs playstyle? That's kinda selfish if it doesn't matter to someone what games his or her other half is better at handling. To give an example I once had a girlfriend that would have gotten really pissed by the controls and reflex driven gameplay of Rocket League. So, better have someone being at least advanced at wielding a controller or willing to spend hours learning if you'd want to competitively play Rocket League and like to keep your other half.

That's fair. Few women I know could handle (competitive) Rocket League with patience. Thankfully you can do local or online co-op and take the tension/stress out of the situation. Plus it's not just one game mode any more, plenty of more casual modes too.

I occasionally play with a few friends, one of them being a woman, and even though she's noticably the least valuable player (not saying she's bad, just not as good as the rest) we all enjoy the matches a lot.

On the other hand my girlfriend isn't the type for Rocket League and would rather prefer Overcooked. So yeah, it depends on the person. Same can be said for men.
