Hacking out of region wifi- how to bypass update?

hi guys, hope u had nice chrimbo and enjoy new years day

I have a japanese wii with a wiikey in (not sure if that affects anything)

but i live in england.

I hear that once u get the connection for wii going, it updates from teh interwebs.

Will this brick my wii? and if so how do i bypass it, allowing me to play mario kart online XD
