o.o I don't think so... after all, it's OFW released by Sony so I doubt they'd do anything to brick their own system...
Any firmware update can brick your PSP if you interrupt the updating process, whether it's official or custom firmware update or you're updating from an official or custom firmware.
It's just like Flashing a PDA. One wrong move during the updating process usually results to a new/expensive paperweight.
