Monster Hunter Wilds DLC expansion "Ascendance" gets new trailer, new Elder Dragon revealed

After being revealed two months ago, Monster Hunter Wilds' DLC expansion "Ascendance" has gotten its first trailer today as a part of Sony's latest State of Play stream. Though short, the trailer showed off a bit of the story that'll be taking you into the game's new biome: the Skybound Eyrie. The DLC will feature a short time skip, allowing you to see some of the younger characters a little more grown up, and a little less useless. We also get to see the fan-favourite Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung and its iconic arena, as well as a brand new monster with the power to control storms.

The DLC maintains its vague 2027 release date for now, with it confirmed to be launching simultaneously on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. With Monster Hunter Wilds confirmed to be in development for Nintendo Switch 2, it's likely we'll see the DLC make its way across there without too much of a delay too.

Hope this brings cross progression. I'm 100% getting the Switch 2 version at launch.

I hope in the future supporting Nintendo hardware becomes the norm for games like this. As somebody who's played Monster Hunter for years I'm fine if the games look like upscaled PS2 games if it means they're playable.
