OTP Guide

Full Guide Release!

https://plailect.github.io/OTP/

All regions now supported!

If you appreciate this guide and the work I put into maintaining it, I accept donations through both Bitcoin and PayPal.

If you felt like the guide helped you out then I'd really appreciate it! If I get enough I may buy a 2DS for testing hardware stuff so I don't break another N3DS.

If the guide didn't help you out then I'm really sorry about that :(

Progress has been made just recently to support booting Decrypt9 from the browser on 2.1. Testing is in progress to restore NAND backups. Initial results indicate successful NAND restores.

Huge thanks to Bilis and Gelex for being fucking amazing!

Very nice, It would be awesome if we also got in the tutorials the md5sum of everything for checking

Guessing I might need to format my sdcard (or find whatever is causing black boot screen).

The only thing that prevents me from doing this is the update process after the OTP Dumping
But everything is setup only need to restore the NAND.bin

From posts above it sounds like the devs will have figured out a 2.1 sysnand restore via browser fairly soon.

Ahh I think it's the fact my SDcard is 128GB. It won't work at all. Even a clean format partitioned in FAT32. Guessing this low a FW didn't support cards this size.

Yeah it's the 128GB card. 4GB card works fine.

By the way when it says wait for the flashes, is it just when the bottom screen goes crazy with flickering?

That would be awesome. If you could, please test these 2 things:
- does the web browser open while on 2.1E?
- does the n3ds brick on 8.1? If it doesn't, does the web browser still work?
Also, if you have a cartridge which updates to 4.x or 6.x test that too before 8.1.

upgraded with Pokemon Y to 6.1.0-4E and successfully launched decrypt9 launcher.dat from the browser

We have it right now, we just got Decrypt9 booting from 2.x browser, I restored my NAND from 2.1 to 9.2 and have a working console ( I have a hardmod, but it was uneeded)

Great news.

My dumped a9f.bin file is 256 bytes, does this sound good everyone? I left the 3DS bottom screen flashing for a few minutes before closing the browser.

Just to reiterate as I said above, my samsung 128GB would not work on 2.1, and is obviously what caused my first boot to fail. Using Nintendos 4GB card just now.

That may have been an issue as well, but my 128GB card is not working regardless. Even reformatted it to fat 32, nope.

Sooo, I was having trouble getting sysupdater working using the 3dsx so I wanted to use the CIA. But I was then having problems getting FBI to transfer across to a new emunand after installing to sysnand. Here's what I did to get it working. Yes it's quite a lot of steps, but it involved formatting sysnand, setting up a new FBI installation, creating a new emunand and installing the sysupdater CIA.

  1. Backup sysnand, emunand and SD card
  2. Boot sysnand
  3. Launch hax to get to HBL
  4. TinyFormat sysnand
  5. Reboot and complete initial setup without linking NNID
  6. Power off
  7. Put SD card in computer
  8. Repartition SD card to remove emunand and erase SD card
  9. Copy SD card backup back to SD card EXCEPT NINTENDO 3DS FOLDER
  10. Put SD card back into 3DS and boot to sysnand
  11. Launch hax to get to HBL
  12. Run minipasta
  13. When back at sysnand, re-launch hax to get to HBL
  14. Launch FBI.3dsx
  15. Install FBI.cia to sysnand (destination SD)
  16. Power off 3DS
  17. Put SD card in computer
  18. Make a new backup of the contents of the SD card
  19. Put SD card back into 3DS and boot sysnand
  20. Launch hax to get to HBL
  21. Run minipasta
  22. When back at sysnand, re-launch hax to get to HBL
  23. Run EmuNAND9
  24. Choose "Complete EmuNAND Setup" and follow the instructions
  25. Power off 3DS
  26. Put SD card back in computer
  27. Restore SD card backup made in step 18
  28. Put SD card back into 3DS and boot sysnand
  29. Launch hax to get to HBL
  30. TinyFormat sysnand
  31. Reboot and complete initial setup without linking NNID
  32. Launch hax to get to HBL
  33. Boot CFW
  34. Unwrap and run FBI
  35. Install sysupdater.cia
  36. Go back to home menu
  37. Unwrap and run sysUpdater

Doing this allowed sysupdater (CIA version) to start installing the 2.1 downgrade CIAs :)

Wasn't able to get sysUpdater to work using HBL, but managed to get it to work w/ the cia version injected into health and safety. Now I have a n3DS on 2.1 :D

Yeah as others educated me in here, sysupdater WILL NOT downgrade via HBL. Has to be CIA. I just re-done my emunand clone with FBI, rather than injecting into H&S. Glad to hear it works okay that way as well.

Same as me, seems 32GB and 128GB cards aren't liked (unless you just had to delete your exdata folder). I thought 32GB was the upper limit for official fat32, so it probably was just your exdata.
