I need orignal xbox sata to ide adapter that works with softmod. I have tried before without success. I am also curious if there a speed hit at all from the converter. I would think it be the same as the limit is the ide speed.

To work with a softmod would require IDE locking to be supported which is a very rare thing indeed, and I am not sure there is such a toy* even if you were willing to get spendy and buy something normally aimed at big boy servers needing to continue running. TSOP mod or mod chip then being your routes of choice here if you can't find something from https://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list that meets your budget/wanting something that is not unreasonable to see going to go pop tomorrow requirements.

*I am not even aware of any USB caddies that do the deed and most adapters are even less flexible than those or just built with the same chips.

If it were to work then speeds (throughput or latency) as you say are probably going to be about the same as vaguely modern sata drive with an eye towards normal performance** would eclipse anything any IDE drive released to the consumer market (or maybe the xbox's own buses). Those that have gone there with mod chips and using such adapters don't report anything negative.

**some of the CCTV drives are a bit slow so might dip down into realms known to IDE.

Still someone might have found something in the meantime. I would not hold my breath though.
