Hacking Original R4 working for DS Lite and not original DS

I dunno if this is the best place to post this topic but I need a bit of help.

I have an R4 and I tend to use it with my DS Lite, though I recently got into possession of an original DS. I wanted to use the R4 with it, but no matter what it never works with it.

I've reformatted the SD card with PanasonicSDFormatter, and after doing so and installing the firmware it works on my DS Lite and not on my original DS.

Is there something I should do?

GBA games and regular DS games seem to work with it. It also boots fine
