That is the save file you are supposed to load to use homebrew.
Did you not read the directions?

Haxx usage
  1. Goto the save-slot select screen
  2. Select haxx save-saveslot
  3. Begin loading the save-slot
  4. Wait for the game to finish loading
  5. Press A, for triggering dialog handling.

Yes but the file is still named Lonk.
Maybe I picked the wrong name to change the backup

  • 1) Backup your gamecard savedata with Powersaves, even if you don't want to keep that savedata.
  • 2) In Windows Explorer, goto "C:\Users\YourUsername\Powersaves3DS".
  • 3) Copy the saveimage you selected from the saveimages_powersaves directory in the release-archive as described above, to this Powersaves3DS directory.
  • 4) Rename your backup save to a different filename.
  • 5) Rename the oot3dhax saveimage to the filename which the backup save had originally.
  • 6) Use Powersaves to restore the save.
It told you to "BACK UP" save data for a reasons, Your replacing the back up (LEGIT) save with the (HAX) save, so go back up your game, and rename the one with the (HAX) To the originial (LEGIT) Name so that the powersaves program "THINKS IS THE SAME ONE BUT IS NOT" And inject it into the game card.

I think my 3DS/Powersave is too smart and every time I try I still have the normal save and not the homebrew. Either that or I have to be a science professor to be able to figure this out

Question. I'm trying this and it keeps failing, what files must I have on my SD Card and where must they be?

The only thing you need on your sd card is a folder named 3DS with a file galled Boot.3dsx on the root of the sd card. If you downloaded the starter kit zip file from the website of 3ds homerew, you should have it.

Nope. Still didn't work, I'm pretty sure I followed all the steps, but I get one of two results: 1. It crashes to menu and says an error occurred, the system then restarts. 2. The screens turn black and says an error occurred and says to hold the power button.

payload.bin... When downloaded it should look something like this N3DS_U_25600_usa_9221.bin Correct? Then it needs to be renamed to payload.bin, right? I remember doing something similar for Smashhax, but I was forced to give up due to a lack of needed things

Last edited by Shigure,
Yeah, isn't that what the insutructions say? Whatever you selected from the website as the system your gonna use it on, put it in and then download the payload and rename it "Payload.Bin" Then put it on the game cart along with the save file.

Hmmmmm.... I'll start from the beginning to see if that helps...
What I did
1) I got Ocarina of Time, cartridge.
2) I downloaded the correct .bin, firmware 11.0.0-33U
3) I inserted the installer into (SD CARD)/3ds/oot3dhax_installer
4) I loaded the .bin file, containing the save file
5) I booted the game, loaded the save file (I can confirm the save file successfully loaded, it was the one that was downloaded)
6) Pressed A
7) I got 1 of two results on each attempt, 1. It crashes to menu and says an error occurred, the system then restarts. 2. The screens turn black and says an error occurred and says to hold the power button.

- Download the installer from the github https://github.com/meladroit/oot3dhax_installer
- Put the Installer files on your SD/MicroSD in the /3ds folder
- (the 2.5hax version of OoTHax on the github apparently doesn't need the payload.bin on the root of your SD but I had it there just incase)
Then from there is where I took the save file from @zoogie and placed it in my Powersaves Local Save folder
C:\Users\NAMEHERE\Powersaves3DS
I made a quick backup of my LoZ OoT game and basically just renamed the Hax*Save file to the same as my backup aside from the (N3DS_x.xU_hax25) at the end (because that is the name of the backup that the powersave application reads) then proceeded to restore the hax backup to my Game Card and from there just ran the exploit like you would after installing it directly from the installer
-Open the Game
-Load the First Save file named Idleway(whatever the hell the rest of the name says)
-After the file loaded, Press A and let the exploit do its thing :)
That's Why
