Hi everyone, I'm new here so I apologize.

I have two old 3DS, but one of them I accidentally updated to latest patch at the time, and there were no hacks out for the update yet (black). The other I bought and is fully hacked with luma and whatnot (purple).

The issue I'm having is that the touchscreen on the purple 3DS, the one I use the most, still works, but it's slowly inverting in colors and is going extremely dark. It started with black lines that thread through the screen, and now, it's pitch black (it used to be readable, but i just turned it on. It's effectively pitch black with red and blue lines running through it.)

Is this due to a touchscreen failure? If so, is it possible to strip my black 3DS' touchscreen out and put it in my purple one? Is it worth the effort? Or is it just a loose cable, considering the touch screen still functions?

I wouldn't mind sending it to be repaired given that it's not super expensive, I really love my purple 3DS and it's not only frustrating to be unable to use the touchscreen, it makes some games completely unplayable because I can't tell what's going on. My issue is that I don't know any hacked-friendly repair shops.

Thank you!

Photos of it off (no visible defects) and on (dark af lower screen) attached.

You should check out DSiWare injection or seedminer to CFW upgrade your black one when Purp is up and running again.

Lines running across LCDs indicates hardware failure by ribbon cable disconnecting or cracked glass. You might not notice the cracks as they may not be visible along the edges. It's time to replace the bottom LCD.

It's possible to swap parts between systems, but this is risky maneuver. You should buy a replacement bottom LCD and limit possible damage to a single 3DS. This might be difficult to pull off, but you should back up all your game saves before attempting repairs.

Check if someone here local to you is willing to take up repairs. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your in-depth response! I found testerfan on here that does repairs, apparently none of the guys that do hardmod do repairs. Gonna look into maybe using their repair service. Thank you again!
