Anybody know of any easy to follow guides or YouTube videos on soft modding using modmii? I've googled it but just wondering if anyone can recommend a website or something

Okay, well the fact is that he will get every feature and bugfix available if he uses 4.1, and he won't get the AP crap that comes along with 4.2+.
just wondering, what AP hasn't been circumvented by the latest cIOS?

it's a pretty straight forward process with a multiple choice menu...choose the system menu version you want and your region, etc. and it downloads the necessary files to your sd card. From there you would insert the sd card into the Wii and initiate the exploit (letterbomb) and install the homebrew channel and bootmii as a boot2 if possible or an ios if not. Once the homebrew channel is installed I would boot into bootmii either from hbc or directly while the system powers on (only if it's a boot2) then create a backup NAND, save that to your computer and then proceed to installing the latest cIOS files through wiimod batch which is an automated process once you run it. Then the last thing would be to install priiloader for extra brick protection (not sure if this is necessary or conflicts with bootmii as a boot2).

The big one for him is that he won't be able to play out of region games anymore using his modchip. Priiloader's region-free hacks cause system instability.

A custom guide is generated by ModMii.

Btw, stay away from FailTube.

If i update through the disc, how do I make sure to not update it past 4.1? will it give me an option of what firmware I want to be updated to?
A disc will only come with a certain firmware on it. I'm not sure, but there might be somewhere that tells you what updates come on what discs.

I didn't really mess with updating, I updated to 4.3 long before I even made the decision to hack my Wii. But I've heard that there isn't too much of a benefit to updating, but I also don't run a modchip, but a softmod.

another question, i have my wii hardmodded with wiikey, is it possible to disable it so I can just have it back to it being a normal virgin wii?

I run 4.3, CFG loader and the homebrew channel, emulators, everything seems to be fine.... lol
is your wii hardmodded like mine? Everyone's telling me to softmod using modmii but I dont have a SD card holder at the moment and am just wondering if there is another way that I can update my wii safely so I can play new games

I actually have 2 Wii's one is hard modded just like yours and I did soft mod it too, and one is just a soft mod. Can't really tell the difference these days what with the hard drive loading being near perfect.

You would be fine updating to 4.3 but like others have said I would use ModMii.

You should have some way of using SD cards on your computer, maybe you have something that uses SD's and connects via USB? I do this at home for SD cards over 2GB (My card reader is pretty old... lol)

If not than there might be a way of using a USB thumb drive to update all those files... I did this with my Wii a couple of days ago. This assumes you have the homebrew channel and at least this program installed... The program you want is called Wiiexplorer, you copy the files ModMii downloads for you to the thumb drive. Plug the thumb drive into your Wii, then use Wiiexplorer to copy the files from the thumb drive to the SD card.

Install all of the IOS and cIOS files that ModMii downloads for you and you should be all updated and in business running all the latest and greatest games.

I ran modmii and it said i needed to insert a wii game (it gave me a few options of games) in order to continue softmodding (since im on 2.2) however it said if i was on 4.1 or higher i wouldnt need to do this, so how can i safely update to 4.1 and then run modmii?

You can update using the Nintendo update, but if you do that you will need to find out your Wii's Mac Address so you can perform the Letter Bomb exploit. The program sends a special letter to your Wii and when you open it the program installs the exploit from your SD card.

Do you have the homebrew channel? If you already have the homebrew channel you don't need to do it that way. You can just update it right from the SD card with ModMii.
