I'm now really pissed about the whole laptop virus this. It's closing every window every minute. Right now I'm reapetaly am copying so if it closes this window I'll have it safe. I NEED AND ANTI-VIRUS NNOOOWWWW!!!!!!!! Every time I try to open one of those free scan websites, I start the scan and it closes it. I hate this and I NEED TO DO SOMETHING! Can some one please tell me an anti-virus that does not need admin privlages, all I need is the name. No download, I can get it myself. Please, I'm really tired of this.

P.S: lol, can you guess I'm still doing my homework

Uh. You should not have accessed the internet without having virus protection. Any decent anti-virus software needs users to install it and I guess that means admin rights. If your parents are dumb enough not to let you install protection, smack them in the head.

those symptoms sound more like spyware to me than a virus. While it is good to have an antivirus in your pc I recommend Avast, AVG, or NOD32. (avast is my fav). I also recommend a firewall instead of the XP built in firewall. For this I recommend Comodo.

as for the spyware. Get Adaware, and Spybot Search & Destroy. Run the scans and see if that helps stop the windows closing problem.

anti-malware is important too. Boot up in safe mode and then run all these programs.
Or you could just back up your important files on an external HDD and do a reinstall of windows.

Hitman Pro is good for a one-time sweep. Just download, and it will automatically download, install and scan using a selection of free anti-virus programs and useful tools. I don't recommend keeping it installed though, as all the different anti-viruses it installs tend to get annoying.

Is this that school computer scheme that you were complaining about before? I can't believe they haven't done anything about it yet! It must be affecting all the students with one of their laptops, and I get the impression that that's a lot of kids.

There's a portable virus scanner that runs from a USB key / CD (so no installing needed) called Clamwin Portable, I don't know how good it is but it must be better than nothing. I can't see a portable Spyware remover on that site but it might be worth having a look on Google for one.

@Trolly not to diss your posting or advice here but ....

Just been reading about Hitman Pro oddly enough ...

I would be warey of this bundle ..

QUOTE"Hitman Pro 3 is no longer completely free for unlimited use. Scanning
with Hitman Pro 3 is always free. To remove malicious files after
scanning you first need to activate Hitman Pro 3. It is important for
you but for others in your network as well, to do this as soon as
possible. Therefore you can activate and remove threats for free for the
first 30 days."

its no longer freeware only 30 day trial after you have to or supposed to buy it!

additional it has stuff/uses stuff like adaware and spybot and spy sweeper in the bundle with it which you can get as individual items anyway so seems pointless if your using them anyway??

oh and if you have stuff like spybot etc already installed it goes to the extent of UNINSTALLING them when it installs its own versions even if they are the latest versions you have installed?

I would advise USE WITH CAUTION!

AVG is a resource hog so use Avast. you can disable it on the fly when dealing with keygens (has a lot of false positives). good and free

found that AVG tends to hog resources more if you have the LINK CHECKER enabled on installation try disabling it .. at least on my system it does not use resources much at all

Currently using version AVG 8.0.176 Im on XP SP3
