I had the touchscreen test work for me. It plays pretty music when it is successfully completed. So, when is that Wario sequence played, besides the sound tests?

On a DSi?

The only thing I've seen of Wario so far is a still image that flashes by in the self test.
Oh, no. Just a lite. But, all my cards are DSi compatible, so in theory, it should work just the same.

Working on an EU DSi XL on FW 1.4.1E via Sudokuhax/DSi HBC.

LOLWUT? That means it runs in DSi mode? >_> Sudokuhax only runs DSi mode stuff properly... or at least things compiled with the latest lib.

QUOTE(kaputnik @ Jun 26 2011, 08:13 AM)
I wouldn't bet my right hand on that it actually runs in DSi mode, but it certainly boots from it.

Everything I've tried so far seems to work correctly, except for the touchscreen test.

Perhaps the speed the self test is running at could be used as an indication if it runs in DSi mode or not? Personally I think the animations etc are very fast, you barely get the time to read the text on each screen. I recorded a vid of it you could compare to running the test on a DSL. Can't upload it right now though, since I'm on a slowass satellite connection at the moment, I'm an engineer on a ship. I can try again later tonight when we're berthed and the 3G connection hopefully kicks in, if you're interested.

It took its sweet time, but I was able to upload the video over the aforementioned satellite link: http://data.fuskbugg.se/skalman02/4e06ea982ea82_dsi.3gp

I believe VLC media player can handle the .3gp format. If not, just put the file on your cellphone and use that to watch it.

Wait, if this 'ROM' runs on Sudokuhax, could this lead to NDS ROMs on DSi via Sudokuhax?

I know this has been asked, but this time we've got new info.

EDIT: Did anyone notice my post earlier? You can edit the tests that it runs. You can disable the touch screen test for example.

Probably not. Commercial roms need to be heavily patched to load from a flash cart as they expect all i/o to be completely different. The only reason I can think for this to load from SD is that it doesn't try to do ANY i/o with the slot-1 cart either during or after loading, just like homebrew.

Yes, these options are in there so that it can be set which cards to what. This way it's easier to not have to train a user on how to run each test, etc.

You can get it to start the menu up automatically, you can see I set it to in my video.

The Debug ROMs can't be posted here, guys. They're still material copyrighted by Nintendo.

By the way, good work

DS mode on a DSi is not equivalent to DS mode on a DS Lite. It will not work "just the same".

my cyclods sees it as a nintendo commericial rom.... if i hit info it doesnt say its Homebrew :/ Yet it works on SudukoHax so its strange isnt it?

Not at all. Commercial games have part of the serial code in the file header (the middle 4 letters). Homebrew almost alsway has '####' instead. That is the easiest way to tell commercial from homebrew. As DS homebrew was invented long after commercial games and has nothing do with Nintendo at all, there is no reason why this debug demo would have '####' as its serial code.

Found some secret sound menu (including Super Mario Bros (NES) "theme song startup"):

Go to Misc Menu > Test Sound

Now you can press the "A" button to select a song/sound to play.... (SEQ NO)
Seq No 0 will play the Super Mario Kart track BG music.
There are 16 sounds available to play in this way (Whats that weird music on number 13?

)

But if you press the UP button, it will bring you a different sound select menu.

The first one is the Group (ARC NO) and it seems like there are only 2 Groups: 0 and 1, all the others are empty
The second one (SE NO) are the stored sounds in the groups, there are like 11 in the first group, and 15 in the second one.

Try out:
ARC NO = 0
SE NO = 9 (or 10)

The sound effects also works while the Background music is still playing

Just wanted to share what I found

Is it possible to edit the serial code in the file header of commercial games to '####' ?

Well I was just thinking how the iPlayer cart tells homebrew roms from commercial roms. If it is possible to edit a commercial rom, so that the iPlayer recognized it as a homebrew rom, running commercial roms with iPlayer would be possible, but I think it wont work, huh?

hmm..maybe that would be so if the DSi test mode cart was dumped...but since big N has a giant legal dick they can slap in anyones face...it will never get dumped..

There's a lot more to do than just knowing the difference. Commercial roms need to be patched a lot to work from a flash cart, homebrew doesn't. If the rom doesn't get patched in the correct way for the individual flash cart, then it just wont work. That's why all of the different flash carts use different loaders.
