Oblivion/Morrowind

So I made a thread about asking if anybody has WoW. And I was playing through the game, and I just couldn't get into it. It's too boring.

Now, I've played Oblivion before, and to be honest, I thought it was boring as hell. And I kept trying to install mods, but I just couldn't get it to work at all. So with steam, I saw Oblivion and Morrowind for sale for dirt cheap, so I figured why not.

Anybody have these games or want to discuss them? Do you have any mods installed?

Oblivion is the shit. It's really bland without mods, but with mods it's great. I have 150+ mods for that game, and it never ceases to be fun. Unfortunately, it lags like hell despite how old of a game it is. It's still more stable than Skyrim is, though. Skyrim fucking crashes every two seconds.
I've also got Morrowind, but I've never got around to playing it yet, so I can't say much about it.

the main grip you may have against morrowind are:

• dull/lifeless exterior
• Dialogue hell ( basically, you have every speech option from every npc with every npc, resulting into 40+ dialogue options which makes quest opening/advancing/closing a problem)
• disorganized journal, info are entered in the order you "meet" them, making it harder to follow quest progression.

And my computer is mid to low end.

Morrowind, dull in comparison as it may be? It's still my favorite Elder Scrolls game of ALL time. There was actually stuff to DO in that game... Sure, when you actually progressed far enough you'd run into loading screens from hell.. but you could never actually beat the game. Not to mention if you killed the wrong NPC that would make long term progression extremely difficult, if not impossible.

Should have rephrased that. Skyrim's got bad mod compatibility. I've only got five mods and I get CTD's tri-hourly, with a good computer.

Just subscribe to them. They automatically update/ are applied when you run Skyrim

Oh oops, kind of misread what you typed there.

I suggest heading over to http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/, download Nexus Mod Manager and download the mods there by clicking on "Download with manager" at the mod's page.

It makes installing mods really simple, and it's easier to manage your mod installations too

The Elder Scroll.. I played and enjoyed a few Morrowind hours at a friend's place several years ago, then watched my bro on ps3 Skyrim later this year. Just got Oblivion GOTY from steam a few weeks ago. But, i just only got a decent computer lately to try and play it.. First impressions are positive though it seem to have a messy user interface.

Also, WoW started going down with lich king you are too late for the party, i guess.

• Walking/moving is way too slow, takes out the fun out of the game

Added the most important one IMHO, I fucking hate having to walk for such a long time.

OT: Oblivion is great, I absolutely loved it, played around 350 hours with it in total, amazing game. The music was just so good, I had to buy it and it's in my music map now.
AMAZING.

Even without some mods, it's just amazing, Thieves Guild, wow.

For some reason I feel that $10 is too much for Morrowind.

I found that there was this big open world but nothing seemed worth doing. I'd just find a dungeon to do stuff in but the dungeons were uninteresting and the combat wasn't compelling.

I got Skyrim for Christmas, even though I wasn't really wanting it too much, but it turned out great. The world feels a lot more interesting, the quests are better, the combat feels a lot better, and it really feels open ended in terms of character development. I mean you can play the game as a warrior all you want or you can have just as much success as an archer or mage of sorts.

I dunno the exact amount of time I've put into it but across a few characters it's at least 70+ hours. And I haven't even beaten the game or gotten a character past lvl 30. I haven't played it in months, mainly due to a busy schedule and other games (Mass Effect 3) but I've been craving WRPGs recently and I may take a break from Divinity II and get back to Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls games are amazing. I'm surprised you found Oblivion boring... Maybe you didn't go too far into the story? Anyway, with or without mods, they are all fun. I haven't played Morrowind myself, but I can testify that Oblivion is a game with tons to do, although Skyrim is much better, no denying that.

If we had the same amount of variety in the dungeons in Oblivion as we do on Skyrim then I think it'd be the best game of the series without doubt... Oblivion's world is a fair bit more interesting to explore than Skyrim's, which I feel is a bit too samey with the tundra/mountains/snow - Obliv had a bit of everything...
If I had nothing to play at this moment I'd have no problems going back and firing up Oblivion again, but Morrowind, well that's definitely a bit old and crusty round the edges.... everything like has been said is at crawling space - movement, conversations with npcs etc etc.... I've actually got the 2011 mod on the comp as the kids wanted to try it, which looks nice enough to play for sure, but you're still trudging..... great game in its time, but hasn't aged very well!

After a few solid mods, I actually found Oblivion to be the most engrossing an interesting gameplay of the three latest Elder Scrolls games. I got the game rigged almost into a roguelike in terms of gameplay difficulty, loot, and leveling... which then paired awesomely with a huge world which became super thematic after mods (it's pretty bland before some of the unique location mods).

Sometimes I wanna go back and play it again... but then I get intimidated by all the mods and updating them @_@ And then I also remember I can't sit around and do nothing but play it anymore--so it's not worth the effort

You had to heavily mod both games to make them any fun. I enjoyed Morrowind on my xbox for about 7 hours though. It was actually pretty fun to play legit with absolutely no console-cheats temptation. Except then I found out how to exploit magic creation for perma stat buffs LOL. Running near the speed of light? Yeah. Awesome. Till it crashed my xbox...
Oblivion, I ended up modding it SO heavily that it was just bloated and a giant pain in the ass to actually load up and play...But overall I never really got into it anyway. The combo was too lame, and the stealth mechanics drove me nuts.
You could be sneaking around a house, standing perfectly still in a room no one is near, stand up, and BAM the entire damn house knows you're there. Wtf.

Overall I just tell people to go play Skyrim instead. Really, it's the "same old" Elder Scrolls feel, but soooo polished and refined. Love it, played it for dozens of hours.

A few months ago I started playing Oblivion and I thought it was ok. After like 10 hours in I turned into a vampire without noticing until it was too late. Playing after that was so annoying that I lost interest. Then a month ago I bought Skyrim and holy shit, it really lives up to its hype. I'm 85 hours in and I still cannot put it down! A masterpiece!
