More Games that I can ever play

Hey All,

Does anybody else feel between roms, steam sales, gog sales, humble bundles (seriously got like hundreds here for super cheap), they have more games than they can possibly play in a lifetime ?
The only thing i'm looking forward to is the steam deck 2 lately, so i can take my collection on the go.

It's a weird feeling man.

Yeah I've still got games I want to catch up on from every decade of my life, let alone the new ones that keep coming out.

Since I started pre-med, I've had this list of games I've been compiling. I keep track of what I want to play/replay, when I actually get the time.

Video games aren't a job, so I don't mind having games I know I'll never get to. I just want to enjoy those brief moments of gametime. If a game doesn't click, I just move on, and I can always play the classics/favorites as a palette cleanser.

Basically, it's not like when I was a kid. I have less time, so it pays to be more selective.

I don't think I'll ever finish even half of my library, but at least it looks pretty on my shelf

Yeah, I feel that. It's the same with other media stuff that I'm hoarding.

I stopped viewing my ROMs and dirt cheap games as part of my games collection. Those should feel more like a "Netflix for games" - it's nice to have the option to play them when I feel like it, but it's no loss if I don't.

That being said even my physical collection is overwhelming. Every now and then I think about skipping a console generation to have some time to play all the old stuff, but then FOMO kicks in and I still keep buying more games per year than I finish. It doesn't help that I enjoy huge games like BOTW or TOTK that keep me busy for a whole year without playing much else.

I guess we shouldn't worry so much, though. Gaming is no chore and as long as we're having fun, it's fine. Who knows what the future of gaming holds, maybe we're lucky to have huge backlogs of "real games".

I've long given up on playing every single game I want to. It's not only a matter of finishing every game which interests me but improving my skills so I have a good time even on the higher difficulties. Maybe if I someday win a few billion dollars, get myself sent to jail in Norway or scam the government for a lifetime disability pension then I'll have the time for this. Probably never.

Besides the games waiting for me, there is modding ideas, shiny hunting machines to make and program.
Too many fun stuff, too little time. I did make a list of things to do, but even this is waiting...

Erm... Steam deck 1 an already play a gazillion games smoothly. But yeah... I'm in the same boat: per 1500 games on Steam, a couple hundred on gog and epic combined (I've stopped collecting freebies), around fifty console games, an uncountable amount of roms, over 200 board games... And i'm still not tied from some of my mobile game purchases

Literally all my roms and games I've owned have been played through and through at least once.
The only digital stuff I hoard is Music and Porn.

I constantly have this feeling, even though I like that there is always a choice of what to play.

There was a time when you bought a game and played the hell out of it because it was going to be the only new game you would have for the next several months, if not half a year or longer, depending on money situation. We used to look back at the "glut" of games the Atari 2600 got and laugh, because surely no one would make the same mistake ever again.

Now they're just spilling out of the cracks and filling up hard drive space, and there's more every single day. Not even getting into the hundreds of free indie titles that people make daily, either as part of school projects, from an actual place of love and passion, or as quick asset flips for cheap laughs and views by unscrupulous content mills.

We live in strange times.
