I did a hand-update to 4.2U recently, using .WADs, but my original (i.e. non-backup) NSMB Wii game is still requesting an update. I tried installing Priiloader to block updates; Preloader worked when I was on 3.2, but now the Priiloader screen never comes up. I just get a bit of a flicker before the health/safety message displays.

Other games (original, backup) work fine, as does the HBC. Launch day Wii, no chip, some assortment of cIOS and cIOSCorp. I do have BootMii installed to Boot2.

I'm thinking I may've missed a .WAD when I was updating or made some other mistake somewhere along the line. Any suggestions on diagnosing and correcting the issue? I searched around a bit to no avail. Thanks!

for the priiloader you may be using wrong hacks.ini file, i'd suggest using da_letter_a's hacks.ini file, it works on every sysmenu ver.

Downloaded that, no help, but good to have, thanks.

QUOTEinstall the latest cIOSCORP.

Just installed that as well (3.6, Wiigen installer) and no change.

I generated a Dop-IOS MOD report:

if its asking for updates then it just wants to update ios files but using the latest priiloader and the right hacks.ini will get rid of the disc updates as it does work, if it didnt work for u then u have done something wrong. i would littereally reinstall priiloader .3b put the new hacks.ini into the root of the sdcard and try enabling the hacks again

Priiloader isn't working, even after an uninstall/reinstall...that's one of the things I'm trying to troubleshoot.

Still the same problem as I mentioned in my initial post: The Priiloader screen never comes up. I just get a bit of a flicker before the health/safety message displays.

have your tried holding reset down when u turn your wii on?

Agh, I'm an idiot; it's been so long since I installed it that I'd forgotten it didn't come up automatically by default. Thank you!

I can't really help with getting Priiloader going, but the update it wants to install is the boot2 update. NSMB Wii has a weird, hybrid, two-part update that first updates you to 4.1 and then, after reboot, updates your boot2. While using the safe updater or installing wads will make the Wii skip the 4.1 update, there is no way to trick it into ignoring the boot2 update via wads alone, which is why you NEED Priiloader or StartPatch to avoid that particular update.

so pretty much the update is a boot2 update and not an IOS update.

goood to know,

Doesn't matter. If it wants to update boot 2 then let it. You can install bootmii again after the fact.

I play the original NSMB disk thru Gecko to bypass the update thingy

Once I held Reset, I was able to load and configure Priiloader, block updates, and start playing. Thanks to everybody who helped out.
