Wii U sucks, even for Wii homebrew. Who cares?
Wii is still the king of the Homebrew Hill.

The WiiU's problem is that it doesn't output 240p, which places it firmly in the emulation arena with most every other retro system out there, including the PC Master Race. ;) If I were to buy a WiiU, it would be for the exclusive games, but with it's dinky library, I just never found the motivation to bother.

Lol have fun emulating MAME games and NeoGeo games that use more memory on the Wii lol.

Indeed, that's one of the Wii's weaknesses. But is that weakness worthy of a double-LOL? While a Wii user may have to emulate newer MAME titles on a PC, he needs to do that for the full MAME experience anyway, regardless of which Wii\WiiU system he owns.

For 240p games that do run properly on the Wii, there's really no comparison. We're not just talking about a game here or there, but pretty much the entire 8/16 bit console generations + handhelds and some arcade. You see, the Wii has a secret weapon that goes by the name of "Sony Trinitron". The WiiU claims to have no idea who the hell that is, but trust me, it's lying and extremely jealous. It can only wish to look so good. So good in fact, I may sell my XRGB Mini and OSSC after I finish RBG modding my TVs.

For 8/16-bit sure, it does the job quite well, but for 32 or 64-bit systems, I'm afraid it's not so much the case. N64 and PSX emulators have been stagnant for some time, as far as higher compatibility and speed goes.

At least with 8/16 bit emulators, it could be argued that the Wii eliminates the need for using the original consoles due to 240p output, high compatibility, speed, and quality of life improvements like save states. With respect to the devs for sharing these fine emulators, can the same argument be made regarding the N64/PS1 emus on the WiiU after accounting for their lower compatibility and bugs?

With no 240p support, what exactly does WiiU homebrew do to differentiate itself from the average everyday PC? If I want to play a N64/PS1 emulator on my HDTV, would you recommend I replace my PC with a WiiU? What if I want an authentic 8/16 bit gaming experience, would you recommend using a WiiU over a Wii for that? Sure, the WiiU has some advantages over the Wii, but the lack of 240p support is a deal breaker for me.

C2W Patcher works well for Wii U and there is the possibility of utilizing the extra RAM even Wii U Versions to utilize the GPU aswell GX2.

I really have come to Appreciate both Consoles. I just wish the Wii U capabilities where put to better use.

so i am using that new wii64 rice on a regular wii, and seems the compatibility is quite good. testing games one by one currently to see on which release (not 64 or wii64 glide or rice) would most games work, not excluding too many non-working important N64 titles (at least IMO).
since i will probably stick with rice and this new menu i love for the sole purpose of showing boxarts (waited too long to finally have n64 so-called cover mod emulation since i want all my older nintendo systems to have this option) i stumbled accross an issue i can't quite work out.
you know how some roms have that "boxart.bin missing" text with some sprite garbage instead of the actuall boxart showing. i've found out that sometimes the config file that searches for rom headers messes up a bit, so you download other rom version and then it usually works.
had several games like that, not too much, usually i resolve this problem very easily finding some other rom dump and that's it.
but that frickin' sin and punishment i want so bad....jeez.
that's actually the one and only game not showing boxart in my collection. i've tried placing it on on both SD and USB, tried using JAP rom, USA rom, unbyteswapped rom, so many translation hacks which also change the rom header, tried changing rom header myself with every header i found combining it with every possiblle extension n64,v64,z64 for every possible case i could think off and still i can't find a rom that configuration file will read normally and show it's cover art. i've used all that i thought would work and i am stuck now...
for the love of god if somone has a sin and punishent OR tsumi to batsu rom that shows it's boxart on the wii64's new menu please help and end my suffering i wasted too much of my spare time just for that one thing and i hate it when i can't find solution.
maybe even a way to edit that boxart.bin or some .ini file that is responsiblle for hooking roms with boxarts. whichever the case just help the bro out please.
i am thankful in advance for your help and also sorry for my bad english if there were some...

... thank you for the fix @Extrems ! I can see why you shy away from hanging around GBAtemp when you have these other super knowledgable and appreciative communities who respect you and your passion.

Passion? The guy provides an "update" maybe once a year and then insults us when we ask questions about it. Passion. Lol.

@DeezTits I Agree How Dare He Make This Emergency Update Without Our Approval. Further More Release it What The Hell Are You Playing At @Extrems.

If We Want and Emergency Update to improve Video on Wii not to mention all other Homebrew because of your findings we will Do it Ourselves.

@DeezTits I Want An Atari Jaguar Emulator that supports the best Atari Jaguar can offer including CD Playback via the ISOs. So get too it.

I notice while playing Conker's Bad Fur Day and Banjo Tooie that the emulator crashes sometimes, is this randomly or it happens with certain conditions? I don't want to lose my progress while playing in a certain area lol

Their is a bug I found a while back that hasn't been fixed and has to do with the classic wii controller original not sure about pro? when I exit not64 and the controller is plugged into wii remote plus inside homebrew it starts auto scrolling left and right very quickly and doesn't stop until I unplug the controller. I hope this gets fixed I learned to live with it but does get annoying when I forget to unplug.

Adults have lives/families/jobs outside of developing emulators on a 13 year old console that historically has been underpowered. I am thankful that Extrems hasn't abandoned his project entirely like most other Wii homebrew at this point in the console's life.

There are dozens of ways to play N64 games if your primary concern is playing incompatible games, I am more than happy to help you set up an emulator on one of your other devices that fits your needs.

Personally, it seems like Extrems is more interested in understanding the technical sides of the Wii or emulation as a whole which is a hobby AND passion of its own that many of us greatly respect and admire.

it also happened to me and that I'm using the classic pro original control, not only happens in Not64 also in Wii64 Rice and glN64.

I was reading that the Banjo-Tooie crashes can be fixed by patching the rom to delete the anti-piracy measures, i tried and it didn't work, i think that kind of APS and IPS patches only work on everdrives, not in emulators.

So is Not64 obsolete at this point? I haven't updated any software on my Wii in quite some time.

Does the new version of wii64 completely replace it?

I use both on my Wii. Some games work better in wii64 and some in Not64.
Perfect Dark runs better in Not64, Banjo Tooie works better in Wii64.
Goldeneye has a working Skybox in the glide/rice version.
Conkers Bad Fur Day works best with Not64. (Massive Slowdown in Wii64 because of the rice plugin not fully integrated)

Not64 Does Not Support Wii U GamePad GlideN64 Only.
Wii64 Fix Fork Does GlideN64/RICE
But Both are good to have.

Wait how do you have both? I have a Wii and I may have misunderstood that one emulator replaces the other. How can I have both coexist on my SD Card if using on a modded Wii (not vWii))?

You can have both on your sd card. I have a Wii64 and Not64 folder in the apps folder and again on the root of the sd card.
