You can as long as the new SD card is compatible with homebrew. If it is over 2GB, there is a fair chance it won't work.

I transferred a Mii and savegame to a new Wii. All works fine, the game loads the achievements associated with that Mii.
However, I can't edit the Mii because I'm not the creator. Are there any downsides to this? Or can I safely ignore that?

EDIT: I created a new Mii on the new Wii, then copied all the Miis to my sd with savegame manager gx. On my computer I opened the Miis with AJs Mii Editor and I copied the machine ID from the new Mii to the old Mii. After importing the Miis again, my Wii now considers them my own and I can edit them and everything. Mario Kart first complained that the Mii was deleted but it offered to copy over the license to the new Mii.


In the end, I have my Mii and I still have my Mario Kart stuff. Phew.

Im a complete noob to wii hacking and I just want to get started with back ups and all so can anyone link me to a simple guide for back up loading (perferably non dvd-r burning)? Also its not running any apps or anything all its got is HBC and a BootMii that doesnt work :U

You can't just start with backups. Use ModMii to softmod your Wii. Once that's done, use ModMii to set up Configurable USB Loader.

I just got a 3DS and I'd love to be able to connect my mii channel to it... but I don't have the option and the button press does nothing.
So I assume there's a newer version of the Mii channel I do not have, how can I update that easily... I know of some things but I'm really not sure what IOS to update..
Doing a nand back up now incase trying to update it does go horribly wrong.

If there is an update it would be a system update but I dont think theres been any changes to the mii channel since release maybe your just pressing the buttons when you gotta hold them.

The System Menu is completely separate from channels. There is no update to the Mii channel. Nothing has been updated in a long time. You simply can't connect your 3DS to the Mii channel.

Sorry I never thanked you all for your help the other day, but I've been away on a trip for a few weeks and mostly without an Internet connection (yes, it's possible!

). In any case, JoostinOnline, Spongeroberto and PPSainity, I appreciate all of your helpful input! I still don't know why the HDD won't load with USB Loader GX, but I luckily cloned the hard drive a while back on another external HDD, which works works fine with USBLGX. In any case, I was able to update my cIOSs and discover Cfg thanks to all of you though. To be honest, I'm still quite happy with USB Loader GX, but it's nice having both.

Btw, what cIOS are most people running on at the moment?cIOS d2x v6 was recently released, and it is a huge deal for USB loading. The alt dol method is no longer necessary if you use those cIOS and the latest version of Cfg. That means games like Metroid Prime Trilogy can be played normally. Use ModMii to download 249[56] d2x v6 and 250[57] d2x v6 and install them with a wad manager. 249 should cover just about everything. Try 250 if it doesn't work.

Also, is it safe to update via Nintendo, or is there no point in doing so?It's not safe, and there is no point.

Odd... be sure to let us know if cfg loader has the same problem. How is your HDD set up? Since you say it's been a while I'd guess it's a single wbfs partition?

cIOS: look for d2x rev21 (it's stickied in the hacking section) - it has amazing compatibility.

As for updating: no need. There isn't really anything beyond 4.1 except stuff that make it harder to softmod. 4.1 is pretty much the greatest version to be on.

If it was working beforehand, and nothing was changed, maybe the drive has become corrupted. If you want to verify your WBFS game partition (or whatever format it may be) I suggest scanning it using Wiimms ISO Tools. If it is a WBFS partition you need to use the wwt's check command to check the formatting and wwt's verify command to check all the WBFS game images.

As for USB Loader GX being full of fail. Well I can't agree. I've been using USB Loader GX from the beginning without fail, but I guess to each their own. In the end use what works and is easiest. The great thing is with multiple choices, you can even use more than one

As for updating via Nintendo...Don't!!! It's more hassle than it's worth considering all the alternative methods available. The most comprehensive and easiest method of updating your Wii is using XFlax's ModMii. Take a look at it, and I'm sure you'll agree.

"d2x" is a modification of cIOS rev21, and v6 is the latest version of that mod.

Several versions of GX are known to cause HDD corruption, so I'd say that would be the cause.

You can get everything you need from ModMii by doing a fresh softmod, but I've been chatting with XFlak (the creator) about changing a few things on the recommended cIOS setup, and he said he is going to be changing it soon, probably within the next release. I suggest you wait until then.
