Okay, I just hacked my Wii, and got the minimum IOSs, like 257 and such. What do I do for playing backups on NeoGamma? I am so lost. Also, games that I insert require me to update, though I am on 4.2. Help?

Updating to 4.0 to 4.2...

I can just use Nintendo's updater and just reinstall everything right? If it somehow bricks, I can just use my nand backup?

Yes but you might lose bootmii through boot2. I think 4.2 does something like that but i cant honestly remember. I'd say do waninkoko's updater thing, it worked for me.

How much memory is available in the nand? how big in mb,kb, or b is one block? I think the blocks remaining has gone into the negatives on my wii. My wii said 0 blocks left but when I deleted a 200 block file, it said 80 or so blocks. How is this possible? The Wii NAND is about 512MB in size, with the System Menu and IOSes taking around half of that. I'm not sure of the precise amount of data per block but it seems to be about 128 KB per block. Regarding how much space you have left - it's very uncommon for the Wii to report 0 blocks, and it will usually refuse to install anything if you have less than ~100 blocks left. How did you install this particular file, and how did you delete it? When possible, use the Data Management Channel or WAD Manager to completely remove channels.

Also, games that I insert require me to update, though I am on 4.2. Help?As long as you have a cIOS (IOS 249 from Waninkoko is probably the best place to start), backup loaders will function. Once you've installed a cIOS, grab a backup loader app and give it a whirl. Some newer games may require different cIOSes.
As for requiring an update, it will also give you this prompt if you have missing or outdated IOSes that the game wants. This usually isn't an actual problem. If you have Priiloader installed you can enable one of the hacks to block disc update prompts.

Straight to the point--> Downloaded MarioStrikersCharged(Wii)[boredom, need new game] and used winRaR to extract(I know that you have to extract the first file (i.e. .r01) into iso BUT at around 7% an error occurs and says this:
Read error in the file c:\users\me\downloads\mario_strikers_ntsc\vortex-msc.r04
(even though I checked properties and chose .r01 not .r04)
Sounds like a corrupted RAR somewhere. Many multi-part torrents will include an SFV file - download QuickSFV to use these files and check that all parts downloaded successfully. If anything is mismatched or corrupted, delete that part, re-check the torrent, and resume downloading.

It's pretty safe regardless of what's installed. The Simplistic Mod guide starts from a freshly-updated Wii using the Nintendo updater. The official update does overwrite Boot2 (and BootMii if you had it) but you can reinstall. The risk of bricking is next to nil. You can use a Waninkoko updater if you insist, but keep in mind that older updaters (not the 4.2 one) may accidentally download stubbed IOSes. You can also update manually by downloading SM 4.2 and IOS70 as wads from NUS Downloader and installing them yourself.

Hmm...I've got me a question that's probably very simple, but that I just can't find...

How do you use uLoader's USB loading for games that are larger than 4 gigabyte on a FAT32 drive?

I know the loader uses .ciso files. I know where to place the .ciso files (:\ciso folder). I know how to convert iso to ciso (either the included isotociso.exe or wii backup manager can do that). And for games without too much data, it works fine...but what if it actually contains more than 4 GB on game data? I manage to create the file on my PC, but it's simply too big for the FAT32 formatted wii drive.

Is there a way to split the game into different files (similar to .wbfs files)? Is there a way to force uloader to use .wbfs files? Or am I missing something completely different...?

I have lots of space in my hard drive @_@

Thanks yusuo and Szalkow! I shall put advice into action.

using MH3 from USB

.. just rev19 @ IOS37 isn't enough for USB, right ? you need Hermes ?

Hermes also needs IOS37 then unmerged for MH3 ? so for one of your slots (222, 223, 224) you choose unmerged IOS37 and then use that slot with MH3 - that's it ? or does 37 merged with something else work for MH3 too ?

is MH3 an IOS-reloading game ?

well just in case - 222 (IOS37+38) from Hermes v4 worked perfect with CFG USB loader v51 (haven't updated, yeah) on an NTFS USB drive - that's MH3 up and running

my Wanin's cIOS is rev17 @ IOS38

If i wanna offline update my friends wii that only has HBC and bootmii installed to 4.2 from 3.1 will i need to use TBR once it's updated

And i dont have to get rid of the stubs either right and can continue on with the normal process of modding

Just install IOS70 and System Menu 4.2 wads from NUS Downloader. You don't need to remod at all, that's only required if you do an official update. If you want Shop Channel, also install IOS61 and the latest shop channel

Quick question. If I got half way through trying to install the softmod, but things haven't gone to plan, am I OK starting again from the outset, or is it better to labour away at the problem area?

OK, I think I know what my confusion was last time. I updated the Wii to 4.2 before starting. When going through "the basics" on the softmod guide, the last step is "Update". But if I'm already on 4.2, I have no need to undertake any of these steps, right?
