Gaming Noob needs Help

Hi sorry to be a noob but im having problems with getting the cheats to work on my dsi. I have downloaded the pack and put the cheats in my cheats folder and i go through the setup of selecting DB and rebuilding the cc. But when i press X nothing happens and when i start the game nothings changed. IS there something im doing wrong. can anyone help me and give me a step by step, ive been trying to figure out what im doing wrong for days and im on the verge of pulling my hair out. The game im mostly trying to do it with is Puzzle quest challenge of the warlords.

did you SAVE ? maybe SELECT?
after exit the cheat screen did you go take a look at the cheat menu are those cheats being marked?
if yes means you had save them

if they are enabled and it didn't work
it could the code is broken
