    I'm using this guide

    http://extranullbyte.com/setting-up-emunand/

my end goal is to install freeshop.

I've gotten to step 5 where it says "Find Decrypt9WIP and run it."

At first, I couldn't find it so I went to the comments and someone had the same problem, he told them to put it in the /3ds/ folder and I did the same.

Now I can find it but when I launch it, I'm kicked back to the prior purple menu.

I've tried looking up what to do, but I simply cannot figure out what people are saying. I've seen a lot of talk about unlinking nands when people discuss this peoblem too.

    Please help.

The only recommended guide for CFW is https://3ds.guide

Please, do follow it instead of that one.

Okay, may I ask how I would sort of "restore" my 3ds back to the point at the start of the guide? Just delete everything on the SD? Because I don't have any data on it that I care about, like saves etc.

Just seeing the "setting up emunand" triggers me.

Anyway, just like gnmmarechal said, follow https://3ds.guide .
I'm not sure on which point you are neither which setup you have but in any case, it would be better to just start over on the guide. The only folder that you don't need to delete is "Nintendo 3ds" which contains any games you downloaded, apart from other stuff.
