As if 2020 can't get any worse Youtube has announced there will be no YouTube Rewind this year.

When I think of Youtube, the first person to come to mind is obv Will Smith. The past Youtube rewinds were so cringe, it hurt.

what's the loss? i bet the rewind would just have been a 20 second audio clip saying nothing but "according to my analytics, only 30% are subscribed, please subscribe if you enjoy my content to make that number go up"

and ending with a 2 minute long surfshark ad

I think it has less to do with the year, and more to do with the fact the previous two Rewinds were horrible disasters (2018 the most downvoted video on Youtube, even). The only reason anyone would watch the next one is morbid curiosity. There is zero point in pouring effort and money into it.

Youtube rewind was never "good" but it was a nice way to wrap up the year if you are watching youtube a lot. All the "trends" are on Tik Tok now so Youtube is getting irrelevant in that department (They got Among Us tho)
