how can you improve on 1080p and 60fps than? (wait the current consoles dont even run in 60fps or half the time even 1080p) :P

Unless you're an expert on technology and console development, I suggest you don't even bother trying to guess what the next gen will be for Sony and Microsoft.

I get quite tired of everyone going "THE NEXT GEN WILL BE THE SAME BLAH BLAH BLAH" when they have no idea what the next gen will hold in terms of graphics and horsepower, outside of the Wii U (which even then they'll promote as "Much more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3" which basically shoots down their original theory anyway).

People can not imagine what the next gen will be like so they think that the people that make the consoles will do the same.

Not imagine.... about in line with the high end PC of the day and maybe a fancy CPU that ages a bit better seems to be the standard model.

As for improving on 1080p I hope they do- screen makers were increasing resolution and decreasing price accordingly quite nicely for years and then more or less stopped meaning if I want to go more than a token amount up from it I pay through the nose and if a console can help force their hand I will roll with it. I have a feeling I would be repeating myself if I went on though (short version- the man in the street will probably be hard pressed to tell things but there are some nice changes in the later versions of openGL and directx- the PS3 and 360 are DX9 vintage gear remember) so I will stop for now.

Guessing at SKUs, controllers and peripherals on the other hand is a bit harder for anything beyond they will rip you off for items that have massive margins on them.

won't make 1 bit of difference you can't improve on 1080p not for a long time yet. whats gonna happen are games gonna be running in 4k? not gawna happen

this next gen is going to be very different you'll all see.

You're pretty sure that the WiiU can do everything in 1080p and with 60fps? Considering we have a console that isn't even a) finished and b) spec'd, you're pretty sure about things. Also 1080p isn't the only thing happening in consoles and TVs. 4K is the next gen resolution for TVs and 4K TVs haven't been released yet, you are correct there. 3D TVs on the other hand have been released. Also nothing is preventing 4K TVs from appearing in a few years (just like HD-ready/FullHD, which came little by little to the market).

If Nintendo happened to state now that 3D isn't that big a deal, it'd be quite odd. Having a console run everything in 1080p 3D and 60 fps with a decent price tag would be quite a feat from anyone, let alone Nintendo. This is just as great a discussion as arguing wether the next gen/the gen after that will have feature X or have graphics in Y resolution with Z fps. If hardware development and the likes wasn't a big deal and make new things possible, we'd still be playing with floppy drives and a few MB of RAM. Also note that it was a mistake (at least at some level) by Nintendo not to make their console capable of better graphics. Look at what Dolphin with an average spec'd comp can do to Wii games. SS, TP, Mario Galaxy, etc. look fabulous.

Saying for example that it was a mistake for Sony to launch a console with HDMI is right and wrong. Look what happened after that: Sony didn't have to make a new add-on for the PS3 to make FullHD possible on the console (yes I use the PS3 for a lot more than gaming). Also the games look pretty amazing in the graphics department + quite a few games are great on the gameplay. Yes good gameplay on other consoles instead of just the Wii (which I also happen to own). Just thought it should be mentioned.

EDIT: Sorry for going a bit off-topic here. Hopefully we see a better Xbox in the future. This gen seems to be at its limits in a lot of departments :(
