I modded my wii ages ago (10+ years) and am just now coming back to it.

I am trying to make a NAND backup but cannot get the option to launch bootmii. So I tried reinstalling it, couldn't install as boot2 so I just did an IOS. Still no dice on any option in the homebrew channel.

I also believe I never installed priiloader, holding the reset and power button boots the wii as normal.
In wikibrew I see this mentioned: "It is recommended to install Priiloader only on a Wii with unmodified IOSs."
Not really sure what this means, my buddy told me DIOS MIO is ancient and to just install nintendont. For some reason, wiiflow was broken after some changes, so I switched to usbloadergx and I had to use the d2x cIOS Installer to get my games working. I also see some IOS58 app on my HBC which I likely used those 10+ years ago.

Did any of these modify my ios in a way it'd be risky to try installing priiloader? I feel naked without any brick protection or NAND backup.

First things first, run "Syscheck ModMii Edition" and post the results here.

Since you modded your wii a decade ago I'd recommend updating your softmod with ModMii (a Windows app). Also take a look to this guide: wii.hacks.guide

I'm actually an idiot, I was hitting "prepare sd card" instead of install bootmii as an ios. Oops :rofl2:.

I'll run a syscheck when im off work. I see wiihacks page on priiloader doesn't mention anything about modified IOS, but wiibrews wikipage on it does.

Know the biases of who you're getting advice from - I hate "GX" homebrew for their poor ripoffs of the official UI, Wiibrew has always had an anti-CIOS agenda and doubled down on it since the discovery of AHBPROT :)

Yes, CIOS or not does not particularly matter (not to the installer, which will prefer AHBPROT anyway, and not to Priiloader itself even though there are other benefits to having a trucha-enabled Wii Menu IOS, like the ModMii-recommended patched & tirleID-changed IOS60);
besides BootMii-IOS can't restore a backup without a GC controller and to even get there you need to use something else... like Priiloader, but if you can do that you can run other homebrew that you can use to fix the actual problem you got into

Looks like I already had modmii installed on my SD card too.

Hello,

Given your syscheck report, it's correct, but you're missing Priiloader.

Highly recommended ==> install Priiloader ==>

And good luck and enjoy your Wii gaming!
Thanks, looks like the wikipage I saw just meant a modified ios 80, which I haven't touched.

Whether iOS 80 is modified or not, you can install Priiloader ==> it's an added layer of security.

Isn't this what you saw? ==>
I can't post the link, but it's wiibrew.orgs wiki page on priiloader mentions it. I can't post links yet cus new.

No mention of Ios80 as far as I can tell.

It doesn't even matter what it says, in practice it requires a vanilla system menu (with or without themes are both fine), but a patched system menu ios doesn't prevent u from installing priiloader

I found the ios80 thing being mentioned somewhere else, probably outdated info. Can't even remember where I saw it now.

"It is recommended to install Priiloader only on a Wii with unmodified IOSs." Was the excerpt from the link that confused me. I already installed it no issues.
