wiikey's not the only game in town. but the current backdoor2 method is. i'm sure youre right that some other way to allow unsigned code will come along, but when is a different question. in the meantime, better pick a winner from the current crop.

If your in North america check for Wii's with SN# LU5154 these have been cut, it appears everything prior and including LU5152 are not cut, I'm sure theres still alot of old warehouse stock kicking around so it may be awhile until these are everywhere but if you want a wii and wanna mod it sooner is better then later

I believe it's possible to still mod it, but you have to expose the legs of the chip by cutting into the plastic. This means it's much easier to damage the console by trying to mod it.

People have successfully modded these Wiis with the pins cut. I've seen pictures, they cut away the plastic on the chip and expose enough metal to solder to.

First picture notice all the small fragments of chip set laying on the chip & boards not good now is risky oinstall hard for home user but is possible

looks to me modder has not actualy chipped away or hacked away but ground down the chip with sum sort of tool the picture shows the wii & chip set covered with dust which was really the chipset lol

No matter what the pro-modders can get in there to install the chip. What Nintendo is doing is preventing the average joe (like myself) from doing the install. Bought my Wii on release date.

He used a Dremel drill with a sandpaper bit. It's a pain in the butt, but it can be done. I've been practicing on an old sound card. The chipset I'm practicing on has even closer/smaller legs than the Wii, so it's damn near impossible to rebuild cut legs on what I've been practicing on.

It doesn't matter, the stopgap measure that Nintendo was doing using these chips is now over, they've updated the chip now and we're starting to see D2C chips in PAL region. No modchips are working on those yet. They might have severed the serial port line all together sealing us off from Backdoor 2, so no current modchip can possibly work on these. That's just speculation though.
