Hi not sure if you all know

but if you havnt got a wii yet get one now

Last ten days, there is a new Wii console whose 3 pins of chipset (pin number 67, 68 and 69 ) had been cut in the market including JAP, US and PAL console. Now, install a modchip on Wii console become very difficult. Today, we also received same console from our friend "Bulu" and made quick photos for your reference. Here are the images for your first look. There are still some methods to solder these pins

Does anyone know of an easy way to tell if someone has one of these consoles without opening it up (ie serial number, etc...)?

Hopefully this'll ignite the quest for real homebrew, and not just backup loading. That was the problem with Xbox 360... Everyone was soo concerned with running backups that they forgot the big picture. Now even though there is an exploit for 360, the only thing anyone's working on is linux. It really pisses me off.

The difference is that xbox 360 has official support for homebrew. Thus many of the legit hackers may instead use this, leaving only the pirate hackers who don't care about homebrew and just want to play games for free.

They're moddable, but they're significantly more difficult and so far the only method I've seen used to mod these is to take a dremel drill to the chip itself to expose more metal to rebuild the legs of the chip.

WAY higher risk to your Wii, even if the most competent pros do it.

Lots of stuff in this thread over at WiiNewz:

Wonder if a little strip/electrical ribbon could be run down past it to make a connection (maybe with some spikes added to form a good connection) rather that "sanding" or etching to reveal stuff.

Do some searches through this forum. There was a post recently that told of the serial ranges that have had this done to them. I bought a Wii about 2 weeks ago, and it was not in that range. (I did not open it though, bought for someone else.) So it's probably just some very new models...
