if you mean when your running cfw I think that your saves well me on your internal memory and you won't be able to use it on your emunand you would have to boot normally to pick back up where you left off or maybe if something makes a save manager you can move your saves where ever you like
I'm not talking about CFW at all here, just how a pull/plug of a SD card is handled on the Switch right now.

please dont start no one was talking about pirates b4 you came in there I don't see how can 32gb hold GameCube rom just don't if you don't have anything good to say just don't say anything. pc emulation uses piracy if you didn't know
GameCube ROMs are under 1gb so (and he also mentioned the the HDD benefits pirates which you kind of proved with that statement) while I don't mind pirating don't pretend you want a HDD because your legally purchased GameCube game you ripped won't fit on a SD card.
For anyone looking for a great console for emulation and piracy, get a WiiU. They're fantastic.

If you want a portable emulating machine then get a switch with an SD card.

Idk if you know but some of the gamecub card are 1gb and i have a wiiu with gameGame rooms on it so I know but I was just using that to make a point that's going to piracy yes but no one was talking about that and also one when just has one emulator on one ROM . All I'm saying don't don't bring negativity I see on other post where people are going off about how about piracy why started when there is none . And if you read my previous post you'll see that the problem is the price of the SD cards for the switch you can get a 4tb hdd with that kinda money I don't know about y'all but I don't got it like that

Well I think that everything is doing to crash because the sd card till be running the emunand any everything else so if it is removed I think that's the only thing that would happen

Again: I'm not talking about a CFW (which includes emunand and stuff).
I was asking whether anybody here who has got a digital (eShop) game on SD is able to remove that card, plug it in again at a later point and still be able to play the games on SD without any issues.

Btw @all:

I have spoken to the CFW devs about this specifically Kate, they will not support it at launch, and they have no plans to do it.

That does not stop others from implementing it, but it will take time.
Yeah but being open source who knows if we will see nightly builds or weekly builds of the CFW from other teams...

Since Nintendo doesn't support maybe it needs a custom driver to detect storage and then re-route on a backup loader to the external HDD for searching games on some folder or whatever...

This wouldn't benefit anyone but pirates.
Right...because apparently people who buy many games, movies, music, and images for their consoles do not exist. Nevermind that some games are too large for 32gb anyway (which btw, said storage space is shared with system files).

This is a problem that cannot be ignored. Storage is a big problem for the Switch until a HDD/SSD method is explored or higher capacity micro SDs are released (and affordable).

People are going to want a cheaper solution for storage outside of micro SDs. At the moment, a 256GB micro sd costs $100. A similar capacity can be purchased for $40 for an SSD. There will also be people who want faster or more secure transfers such as those of the M.2 SSDs and HDDs respectively.

Frankly, it's pretty silly this isn't viewed as an issue for future development. This either means that homebrew devs have something up their sleeve, actually don't care, or are simply at a too early point in development to worry about that.

You can write a patched FS.kip1 right now that instead of mounting/reading/writing the sdcard, redirects all sdcard requests to a usb mass storage device (if connected). This will get you your extra storage without enabling piracy or anything (like a specialized "backup loader" off usb would do), the NAX content on the device would still be as encrypted as it would be on the microsd originally.

oh, my bad I don't have anything from the eshop I would try and let you know. but I guess you're wondering if its something like when you hot-swap a cd when the game is playing and change it to something is minus changing it to something else just laving it empty

hopefully, someone implemented it

Removing the SD card requires you to "Download missing game data". Plugging back in the SD allows you to play it again as before.

This is a topic of interest. Has there been any progress or developments of external USB HDD support? For example, one instance where it’d be quite useful is to install nsp files from an attached drive onto the Micro SD card. Sure there are alternate ways such as Ftp, though it is painfully slow to transfer at 2-5 MB/sec. Also, having to boot into rcm again after using a computer to put files on the card is just cumbersome.

Tricking the Switch into thinking that an attached HDD is the SD card is already possible on current CFWs but nobody has bothered to code the needed module.

I just want to see the option to pick USB mass storage as a source when using something like tinfoil. I dont care for using one as a destination, but it would be hella useful for Tinfoil.

I’m sure this will be supported given due time. Micro SD cards now have a new format which increases the size they can hold and read speeds. Now if the Nintendo switch will be compatible with it via a update we will never know until it happens. As for HDD there is a reason for the system to have a dedicated usb 3 port on it and I don’t know what it’s for. Anybody got any guesses?

I use the USB port for an ethernet adapter

hdd support would mean the switch would have to be docked at all times. Not for me since i always play handheld

THIS. HDD support would defeat the whole system itself. Also, if we keeping it super real, the Switch library is so garbage that no one is thinking about storing games on a 2TB level. The emulations scene in reality is also limited to 2D games, so again, you don't really need to store anything on that level. When DC or GC run at full speed, this may become a priority.

It would still be nice to see it possible for those who are unable to shell out for a large sd card, but likely already have a usb drive or 8 laying about.

But that's what I'm saying. The library is so trash that you don't need a HUGE amount of storage to play the things you actually like lol. Like, no one is currently dying over what to choose to take with them because the Switch has such a superb library that they don't want to leave anything behind. Everyone has like a 64GB SD card and is just dealing until Pokémon releases. At which point 64GB is more than enough to fit just that one game LOLOLOLOLOL.
