Forgive me if my post does not follow regular guidlines as this is my first time posting to this fourm. I do have further information though that may be beneficial or at least interesting to note. I will be happy to provide further proof if need be for what I am about to provide.

I recieve the error code 2124-4007 in regards to my console being restricted for online use by Nintendo everytime I open up the eShop and attempt a online game. I was able to redownload games I had archived on the device and have been able to use my Nintendo Account as normal on my 3DS even though it is the same account on my Switch. I have not tested anything else.

I was in contact with Nintendo’s Support Team through the phone in regards to the error code. (I lied and stated that my “brother” did something to the console and now I see this error code, played dumb. :P) After a few days of no response after being told nothing other than that someone will get back to me (they did not) I called again today. I was redirected to their Senior Advisor who I talked to more stating the same thing and told them I believe “my brother” used something called LayredFS and when I opened up a game a completely different game opened up. After explaining this to the representative they informed me that they believe it was “hacked” (no duh) and that is likely why I received that error code and that if that was the case then there is likely nothing that can be done for the console AND my account. The representative explained that if this is the case than I would need to use a new console with a new account in order to continue using online services however they did submit my issue further and that they will get back to me within a week.

So with the information I was given from a Nintendo representative so far it seems your console and account are SOL if your console was banned. However I have not attempted to unlink my account and link it to a new console and may attempt to do so in the future if that is even a possibility. I will reconfirm that information and ask as many help and relative questions as possible when or if I do speak to a Nintendo representative again and update my post accordingly!

@BubbaMeYay Other countries have different laws when it comes to hacking consoles and supposedly people from those countries challenged Nintendo's bans and reversed it. Unfortunately, these were people from Europe and the US really doesn't care that much about consumers so I'll be damned surprise if Nintendo goes easy on you. Also since you can access the eShop still, that means only your console is banned and not your account. I guess the rep wants you to be safer than sorry by making a new account (which totally makes sense), but at the least you would need a new console. Lastly, your the first person to actually deserve that like for your hilarious story. Please, continue to provide as many details as possible.

@Zouiguipopo I noticed you answered yes to accessing the eShop on the Switch but no outside of the Switch. I'm asking if you can access the eShop outside the Switch, not if you did. I've already marked it down as a yes so you don't need to amend your post since there is no reason for you to not be able to access it on a computer if it works on your Switch.

Sorry for asking a silly question, just wondering if this is currently a perma-ban or a timed ban...

I know, there's no reason for it to be a timed ban given everyone used homebrew/save-editing/etc...just wanted to check.

    I mean, a perma-ban for save-editing a single player game?

I don't really believe in silly questions but since you asked, as far as what we know, none of these bans have been temporary/timed. I don't know if any of the people who are banned are actively checking to see if they stay banned, but if their ban goes away, I'm pretty sure this will be the first place they will report. If not and they do it in a new thread, it will gain a lot of attention that I will probably see it and add to the first post (after asking certain questions...).

How would a person from Europe challenge such a ban? On what grounds? Do you have a source for that?

My bad, edited as well. I've gone thru and read a lot of peoples reports but I couldn't find direct correlation so I just thought I'd ask if updating backups has led to someone being banned. I understand that's one parameter in a sea of different ones but I'm curious if anyone has been able to pinpoint that as the single cause to a ban. I really wanna update some backups as there are games that need the day 1 patch to fix performance issues.

    I'll say it again

It seems to me from all the feedback, people who have ran homebrew on their device while at the same time trying to avoid getting a ban by putting it in flight mode are the ones who have ended up getting banned..

I can see this pattern not sure about anyone else

I'm not seeing that pattern. If I had to gamble I'd say the 2 things causing the bans are manipulation of logs and dodgy certs.

The people who haven't used backups seem to have either cleared their logs or they had errors of some kind.

It's tough to know man. There's people getting banned for simply having homebrew menu offline and others are hacking splatoon and playing online with backed up copies and are fine. I just think its waves. Certain things (which we can't determine yet, hence threads like this) flag the system for suspicious activity and then the hammer drops.

The problem is that the hammer doesn't drop the instant you do something and so people can't know what exactly was at fault. You install SX OS for example and you don't get banned right away. Then people try updating backups, they install other things, they might even play online with dumps and then they get banned. Any one of the above or all together could be the culprit.

Unless we get a test group with people willing to perform specific actions like ONLY installing SX OS, ONLY installing homebrew menu etc. reducing the factors and pinpointing the cause we won't know for sure.

Reason for being banned confirmed by a Nintendo supervisor eshop checks your logs when you sign in to use it so I signed in to eshop with logs and the next time I singed in I had no logs so a mismatched logs report was all they needed to prove I tampered with my system in some way .

I think I haven't read any reports from someone banned who has used SX OS + never went online under SX OS + updated backups with OFW + never played online backups + never used layeredFS.

So maybe, for now, that kind of usage is safe? (it's the one I intend to do, btw, I only care for the online to update the games).

That still works just can't play my own games online ofw but can still update the backups I don't think it's permanent either I think it's a slap on the wrist type deal like 3ds .

I was in another thread yesterday on about updating games, everyone claims the certs do not get checked upon updating, but something is definitely being sent to Nintendo

I knew I should have saved that post for future reference so I guess its my own fault. My faint memory tells me it was something from the Scandinavian countries. As it is, Europe is full of as many as countries as there are states in the U.S.A and like like each state, they have slightly different laws in each country.
I was trying to find out if certain versions of SX OS are less safe than others because injected certificates didn't work on 1.0. Also, I still don't see what version of SX OS you were using. It still says 5.1 in your original post.

0 ban on 4.1.0 or lower and not doing ultra suspicious stuff (like cert injection...)

No matter what you do it seems better to stay on lower fw for now because of 5.x.x telemetry
