Nintendo scraps new GBA

I'm confused about it being the "successor to the DS", as I remember Nintendo swore up and down that the DS was not the new GBA it was a supposed to be a "third tier" and for years iv'e been waiting for a new GBA. I had always hoped it would be a little faster, have a slightly bigger/higher res screen, an av out, maybe a controller port or two. I would call it the GBA2-D.

nintendo basically said they will milk the cash cow called the DS some more before introducing a new system

I still see the DS as the evolution of the GBA and its direct successor. I never really thought they would make another GBA since the system is quite outdated. For instance there is no reason to make more games for GBA, because you could just as well do it on the DS.

Although at the same time a GBA is still worth having for all the great games. A lot of them still seem very fresh after all that time.

They just said that in case the DS didn't catch on.

Well, the DSi is the third version of the DS already so I guess the next step up would be a completely new handheld.

They will probably (atleast I think so) release a new handheld in about 2 to 3 years.

That is perfectly logical, except like Joe said Nintendo will suck us dry with DS stuff before they give us another handheld that is actually portable (pocket sized).

This can be seen by the immense amount of games, nearing 4000 NDS ROMS being dumped, plus there are some games that were never dumped at all.

Nintendo aren't gonna release anything new for a while...they still have to suck the life out of every "casual gamer" and force away hardcore fans

I would love to see this new system, I'm also thinking that it will have the same all digital content similar to the PSP go but is a new system entirely.

I'ma pitch my little theory here and say by the state of things (which is platforms staying rooted in the market for longer due to larger and larger install bases), before long PC will be back on top. Consoles are likely to start moving so slowly from now on, and the only user-friendly and business-friendly option is to offer upgrades of sorts to the consoles rather than a whole new one. Keep on going with that, and you're back at why people buy PCs. Not to mention the more PC-like qualities of newer consoles (hard drives, internet capabilities, media playback, etc.).
Might take a while for it to happen, but I'm positive something like that'll happen.

GBA Micro is a Gba... Just a redesign and can not play GBC games.

Well, you know, Ninty wants to pirate-proof the new system first. Before they release a new system, they need to find out how effective the DSi will be against pirates once they dump off the DSlite/phat and start making DSi exclusive games and pirate-busting firmware's. And they haven't discontinued the DSlite yet, so they don't want to spread themselves too thin. Give 'em another year or two to kill off the DSlite/phat support, then they'll release a new system.
