Unless the ARM11 can run code compiled for ARM9 processors (or ARM7 processors, it can't run DS games.

I don't get how people can call these designs impractical while cell phone companies have been doing the same thing for years.

LCD screens are much more scratch resistant than years ago. Only thing I would be concerned about is the button placement. Once that is comfortable, the rest falls into place.
