Nintendo acquires Next Level Games

nlg.png

Nintendo has just announced the acquisition of Canadian video game developer Next Level Games. The latter is no stranger to Nintendo games having developed titles like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, the Punch-Out!! remake and the Super Mario Strikers series. The acquisition is expected to close this March 1st.

Are there any games you'd like to see emerging from this acquisition?

This is some next-level transaction ...
But seriously, if Nintendo is reading this, you know what would be the next-level acquisition after Next Level:

Level-5.

A Gaming Company that can make fully-autosterescopic, detailed and optimised Yo-kai Watch worlds on the 3DS platform, when Game Freak couldn't with all their Pokémon titles there, will definitely have a lot to teach about optimisation on any Console.

New Punch-Out!! confirmed
I hope so; I'd love to see one that doesn't rely on worthless motion controls.

...Can you play Punch-Out! Wii with the Classic Controller?

I would not mind this for the Switch at all :) (with motion controls like on the Wii pls)
No.

I've LOVE to see what Level-5 could do with Pokemon. I'd pay top-dollar for that, hopefully.

Also, isn't Level-5 in charge of Professor Layton, or something? I swear I've seen that company's name before...or is dear ol' Hershel owned by bloody Capcom?

They are, and they have created a few more classic franchises.
All told, this is a snapshot of what's currently cooking in their kitchen:

Any of these could give a Masterclass on optimisation to Game Freak, which is both sad and an acquisition opportunity.

Also, if you're already into Asahi, and I presume it's Asahi Super Dry like you should, then may I suggest my favourite Yebisu as the logical next-level ...

It isn't that easy to find outside of Japan, but it's definitely worth it.
As for what I drink Down Under, seeing I come from Sydney, it's a Tooheys ... or two.
I'm here all week.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
