Ign Ðata wasn't wrong, it is outdated.

Usually when the media gets the technical specs of an unreleased console is information that can change in last hour. I can say that Nintendo made an important change in the last hour, they changed the dual arm11 266 to a dual cortex a5 800 first, second they jumped from 64MB FCRAM DDR 133 to 128MB FCRAM DDR 200, Dual GPU received an overclock too.

GENTLEMEN, EASY YOUR MINDS. YOU WILL NOW WITNESS SOMETHING INCREDIBLE. Top of page 9 of this pdf. https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/eas/GetApplicatio...html?id=1238905

More here: https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports...27EW4DWMW015%27

(The first link is the "User Manual Host" in the second link.)

Edit: Appearantly the first link doesn't work. Use the second and click User Manual Host.
Also, a guy http://www.3dsbuzz.com/3ds-forum/nintendo-...essor-wth-1473/ here, says it's an ARM11 based on the "1048 0H" model number. He mentions a source on the ARM website, but I can't find any mentions of "1048 0H" there..

Edit again: Another website says otherwise. Dunno if trustable though: http://www.itproportal.com/2011/03/28/excl...-tiny-arm-core/

IGN got information from one of the developer sources... allegedly... More likely a developer said "It's at least this... it may have this.... it may be like this..." and IGN heard "ZOMG FINAL SPECS!" and posted that.

Techinsights reported on the ram so they are fairly believable... That said, it's very unlikely that nintendo stuck with a 133mhz arm9 as that's pitifully slow and just looking at the games already out and judging by developer comments (which place the game somewhere between a PS2 and the Wii, with the PS2 having a 300mhz MIPS you know that can't be true) no way that can be.

People forget that ARM isn't a company that produces chips... ARM is sort of an open source standard for other companies to make their own chips. Either matching them exactly or making their own proprietary versions, supporting the feature sets they want or the speeds they want. With Nintendo we can almost guarantee a proprietary chip... so we aren't going to see an exact chip type on arm.com (try looking for the exact GBA/DS/DSi ARM processors on the site and you won't have any luck either, unless someone can prove me wrong?). The most we'll get is whatever Nintendo is basing their design off of.

Really, that's what the problem with their reporting was. Reporting speculation combined with probably non-final specifications as fact.

It could very well be that games only get 64MB of RAM to use, while the rest is allocated to the home menu and other functions.

I hate to be confrontational, but i see no reason to believe that IGN ever talked to developers in the know. They never cite their sources, they just claim they talk to certain "industry insiders" and that's the end of their information. As it is, they could just be making stuff up to generate buzz or fill in the lack of information for all we know. Or they may just be trusting the wrong people. Considering the 3DS design and hardware were apparently finalized on or soon after E3, it seems unlikely that they would fundamentally change the CPU and GPU so dramatically. IMO either IGN was bullshitting or their source was bullshitting. Developers would surely know the specs well enough at the time it was reported.

If they end up being right about dual ARM11 cpu's, i'll concede i was wrong. But i'm really not giving them any credit, they've misreported far too much and not even cited their "sources".

"It is our undersanding that all measurements test reports, FCC ID label format and correspondence during certification review process cannot be granted as confididential documents and such informations will be available for public review once the grant of authorization is issued.

Sincerely,

Tetsuro Uchida"

Looks like we haz to wait a lil' bit before the files we yearn for become public, hopefully just until the market settles and whatever FCC's process of publicizing priorly confidential documents and files is.

And I doubt anyone wants to go hacking away at the FCC.
