Exactly. My bad. Poor choice of words. Need sleep LOL. They did patch the code exec part but not the savegame part. He was going on about the latter iirc.
I said almost!!!!!
Okay i was wrong at first that nintendo will find that game but i said nintendo would find the exploit anyway if you remember!
Hey all hackers!im not sayin you have to release the exploit but if you know something please dont even talk about it and you'll bring hope and in the end nothing happens!but thank you neimond and yellows8 and excutioner(i cant remember) for all your work.but i still have hope about this savegame exploit :ha:

The hack may as well be considered dead. If a 3DS Slim (3DS with battery improvements of XL, and maybe a slightly larger screen) comes out at E3 or they announce a new color it will most definitely be patched to 1.5. Nothing you can do will change that either. We don't have a way to update firmware with a downloaded file, which would mean a homebrew program would have to be created to even downgrade a system. Of course if there were homebrew that worked on the later firmware revision, why would you even bother in the first place?

If you actually plan on hacking things, go for Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. CS is only good for programming on established platforms. Where I went to school there were probably 4 or 5 extra classes between CEG and CS dealing with hardware.

Also, if you haven't even started coding by age 12-15 you aren't going anywhere other than a cubicle, debugging cash register software that breaks after 10 characters are entered.
I really hope no one is dumb enough to listen to this guys crappy advice ... Most people who learn in college get just as good jobs as someone who would learn at an early age. I know someone who got an undergrad job in the field paying 30 bucksan hour . An UNDERGRAD Job.... You really don't have to be a genius to go into the field of computer science, just dedicated to what you do.

Nice of you to join just to insult someone.

Anyway, CS is NOT an easy course for most, and it takes more than dedication. But I do agree that you don't need to start coding by 12-15, that's ridiculous.

I joined to jump into an argument too. =D
Why am I not surprised, lol? xD Now your pretty high up on the GBAtemp social ladder lol. Nice promotion btw.

Yeah, that's why I'm trying to learn a language or two before I even get to college. Right now I'm trying to get C down, and later it's increment C++.

I do not find this hack project dead, this update just made a slight delay in the grand scheme of things. with them working behind the scenes, and only releasing tiny bits of information nintendo has no way to completely stop it. From what was gathered the exploit uses a certain save game data, however since the game name was never released nintendo is like everyone else. Grasping at straws, in the end they know as much as we do. until more info is released, i am going to go play monster hunter 3 ultimate

it is their hardware, but no one knows which save data is being used. how can you fix a problem without knowing what to look for?
How? Apparently pretty easily, they didn't even need to worry about the little game cart save exploit.
The system does not delete/block 3DS savegame haxx at all with this update, however the code execution haxx used by this was fixed.
[01:46] yellows8 http://3dbrew.org/wiki/5.0.0-11#NATIVE_FIRM_and_other_titles "Multiple
NATIVE_FIRM code execution vulnerabilities was fixed." <- code exec hax used by this
savegame hax was fixed.

the code execution was fixed but not the save game hack itself, what they need to do is begin working on a new stream of code to execute the hack itself. all nintendo did was set them back .

First off, I know more (about everything) than all of you put together. Just accept that. :teach:

Second, they know more about their own software than anyone else (except me of course).

Well I really dont think you nor I are qualified to tell them what they need to do, but in my opinion they could probably make use of the remaining funding required for that chip decapping, if anything.

yeah you are right, that was my computer geek speaking. i am the tech nerd of my family, so whenever i think of something tech wise i blurt it out or work on it myself.

Hmm.. Well,I think they can do something with the IR reciever. Maybe make the console crash, but it may be useful.
I don't really know.

I mentioned this in another thread, but Nintendo got all the information they needed from the initial announcement. A game save exploit and a hacked crash screen. They went back and looked at any permissions the 3DS has while playing games and found where a game running would be able to get kernel access. Nintendo likely patched the hole by changing permissions for 3DS games or the crash screen, which could have been running in kernel mode(something like leaving the keys in the engine of a car.) The architecture is closer to a computer than the DS line of systems so they have the capability to fix these things. They can still use the save game hack to run code, but they no longer have kernel access.
