Nintendo is obviously watching us and 3Dbrew, they don't know the game but they're more skilled than anybody here (because it's
their system.) So they found some easy way to fix the problem just by following all the little clues here and on 3Dbrew. I updated anyway, it's pointless to me to lose partial functionality for some (as of now) pipe dream and plus, I want to actually play Pokemon x/y while it's current and any other game as well. The point of hacking the system should be to open a hole big enough to be usable in the current firmware and we didn't make it there yet.
Being the sadistic bastard I am, I actually read through this entire thread (I lost count of how many hours
that took...) I can only conclude a few things:
-This place needed heavier moderation (lol)
-If I was yellows8, neimod...whoever else in the know, I wouldn't have said a thing until it was absolutely ready. (pretty easy to say this in hindsight I guess) As much as I appreciate 3Dbrew's willingness to amuse everybody's curiosity with the info they
did release, look where it got everyone? Nowhere. Now we're at (almost) square one again and the wait time is even longer now. We all lost out this time. Please stick to need-to-know basis next time.
-Whoever (people at 3Dbrew or otherwise) tried to justify limiting the use of whichever exploit was found in order to 'prevent piracy and/or prevent damaging game developer's incentive to produce games' well, I just have to completely call bullshit.
For one, (and I mentioned this in a post on another thread) homebrew will almost always lead to some form of piracy, regardless. (unless you don't release the exploits and then homebrew will suffer as a whole.) You really can't have one without the other. (If you care to disagree, I'll ask again, please explain how you get homebrew without piracy eventually. Even something like Devolution can get hacked as someone mentioned earlier in this thread.)
Secondly, Game developers are
ALREADY bitching and complaining of piracy for the 3DS when none even exists as of yet. (Bar Ace3DS)
No HOMEBREW even exists as of yet and they have nothing fueling their dread other than word of mouth (or text in this case) because really, in the grand scheme of things, there is not much to show in terms of progress. (for homebrew or piracy)
In spite of all of that, "damage" (I use this term loosely)
is being done in the process of these (homebrew's) efforts, regardless, or they wouldn't be bitching and complaining
already. Deal with it. We can't stop every paranoid, whiny game developer from deviating from the 3DS if they choose to. (This "damage"
CERTAINLY didn't stop Nintendo, Gamefreak or The Pokemon Company from releasing Pokemon Black2/White2 on the
DS in
late 2012 now did it?)
-Realistically, we could be waiting years before we see something promising here and if it's released by 3Dbrew, well, we already know their stance on the matter, so it would take even more time for the project to lead to 'other things' by other people if that's what interests you.
-Unless explicitly and non sarcastically confirmed by one of the big guys at 3Dbrew, they would have shared everything with us eventually on the grounds that it wasn't reversible by Nintendo. (As far as homebrew and exploits directly related to that go. For all we know they could be working on their own personal 3DS ROM loader on the side and just refuse to share any of that with us, which would be pretty hypocritical but I digress...) How else does homebrew work out? I mean, seriously, the guys are running a site
dedicated to homebrew. By their own definition "
Homebrew is a popular term used for applications that are created and executed on a video game console by hackers and consumers." Consumers: that's most of us. It's a thing that requires input from more than just a handful of people on 3Dbrew in order to get off the ground.
Anyway, this thread has been enlightening...I just happened to finish reading it right when Nintendo slammed all of us, so (for now) R.I.P. Homebrew.
Additionally: Due to not much official word on the decapping fundraiser it was pretty easy to assume (up until this recent firmware update) that they weren't in desperate need for those SEM images. Now that the tables have turned I can only suggest that some higher-up at 3Dbrew.org come forth to reinvigorate the donation process because it has been stagnating for months now.
