What do you think about this "hack"?

It seems to be the case that eventually there will be a game I really want that isn't released in the PAL region so being able to make the 3DS region free would be the best thing to come out of a hack. Hell I pretty much only use my Supercard for Pokemon hacks and stuff now.

I used mine to play two players on two ds'. One with the original cart. I want the hack to be able to play 'varified dumps' of the 3ds games I own (only starfox let's me play with one cart). I like to support the devs, but they need to step it up with download play (DOAD would have been perfect for this feature). Two copies of the same game is waaay out of my budget, therefore, economically unfeasable .

Also, some fun with the IR. :p

The TL/DR
A save exploit hack was found. It uses a retail cartridge and save hacking tools. They are already running code with it but will not release any other info (including the name of the retail game) to the public until they have something to share. Updating is safe because Nintendo hasn't found it and pretty much can't until the hack is released. (Feel free to put this in the OP as a one line summary.)

This is just about what I was going to say; it is like telling Nintendo to find a needle in a haystack, but the needle hasn't been mixed in with the hay yet.

Well actually the "needle" is there, it's more a case of they don't know what the "needle" is.
True. You are right about not knowing what the needle is, but not knowing what the needle is about equal to not having it at all, as neither can be discovered....or at least for now...

well devils advocate they know they messed up somewhere and they have far more resources and understanding than neimod does since the invented the thing, and he found it, so its not impossible that they could review code and try and look for bugs and stumble on it too

Don't forget, code isn't perfect. There are always angles and vectors to attacks that can break the code. They need to find which part is weak and patch it, and they're not getting any help from outside the company.

Actually, the term "devil's advocate" is not what you think it means.

Since Nintendo has the possibility to find this "needle in a haystack",
Shouldn't we wait a little before updating our 3DS's in the future, just to make sure the guys from 3dbrew won't say anything like "the savegame exploit has been patched"?

the needles are there. its more like telling nintendo to find an undisclosed number of needles in a series of haystacks, but there are hundreds of haystacks and you aren't telling which ones have needles in them.

Everyone, shut up about needles or you'll find some under your pillows tonight. ;) It would be pointless of Nintendo to devote research teams towards finding a needle from under one your pillows (or all) by using millions, not to mention the millions of others they'd be losing by not devoting the teams to making games. Even if they did find it and released a patch, Neimod and friends could say it's being patch in the update as soon as it's released and no one would update. So basically, they'll have used $2 000 000+ for about 2500/25 000 000 people to lose the ability to hack the 3DS. OBVIOUSLY these stats aren't accurate, so don't start about the stats now because I assure you, although my stats estimating skills are off sometimes, my # of needles under a pillow skills are never off. (Hint hint, it's always more than 1 ;))

so the 3ds is not hacked yet?
Yes and no. It is "exploited" or hacked if you want to call it that. <Now a discussion of 10 pages is going to start about that since I didn't clarify it correctly. It's hacked but the hack isn't released yet.
