It depends on the game. I was also using that but some games (like the ones I listed) still were not playable in extracted format with fmxe beta 5.

Xeunshackle is overall better, except for maybe homebrew. Trying to boot Genesis Plus 360 0.18 goes back to the dashboard. GP360 0.18 loads when using fmxe beta 5. There really is no reason to use that port anyway though.
It will not even detect ROMs on the USB storage device so I just use the NeoGenesis homebrew for Original Xbox, which works great with the patched Fusion emulator (xefu 2019 version) and the only issue it seems to have is background music on the menu (by mega driver) stutters a bit. Not to mention is is updated more often.
Hmm, maybe I will switch 360 Hack Pack over to it. Thanks for letting me know.

XBLIG might be an issue for the BadUpdate exploit.

- You need the full firmware Update installed (full = with avatars etc.)

- The XNA Indie Player Title Update must be installed

- Here comes the dangerous part: In Dash Launch you need to activate contpatch and fakelive.
I don't know if these patches write to the NAND - if they do, your 360 won't boot after a restart - if not, then you might have a chance to get XBLIG to run.

EDIT:

MrMario has a video tutorial for XBLIG and in the end he says that the Dash Launch settings are not needed - maybe you are lucky:

EDIT 2:

Maybe not, a comment said that it doesn't without enabling the fakelive option in Dash Launch.
Wiki also says that fakelive is needed for Indie Games

https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox_360:DashLaunch

Enabling fakelive kills Proto support tho, so pick your poison.
Also keep in mind that I don't know if Dash Launch applies these patches dynamically in RAM or permanently in NAND - be cautious.

Thanks, I tried many things....but in the end I deleted those games (indie, XLBIG). did not want to risk nand

I tested XeUnshackle with contpatch+fakelive and indie games play perfectly! Console reboots normally too, so nand seems to be safe. Backup your nand before enabling any of these patches just in case.
I also don't really use XeUnshackle because I get slow load times for when launching apps.

I have a question about the two plugins that come by default with XeUnshackle in DashLaunch.
Can I delete them? I won't be using the internet on the Xbox.
I'm referring to Xbdm.xex and JRPC2.xex.

Here is the ultimate Bad Update list containing well maintained packages developed and recommended by people of the homebrew community, as well as those on GBAtemp. If you haven't used Bad Update yet and would like to know more, refer to this guide.

I will attempt to update this list in-case there are any other recommendations posted to this thread or elsewhere.

Thanks for the mention! Community needed a PSA for this. So much happened last month.

We need an open source launcher :) I hope to make that happen. The fact the xeunshackle hacks DashLaunch like a windows PC game unofficial fan patch is both incredible and sad at the same time.

New 360 Hack Pack incoming, with Xeunshackle or FreeMyXe as options in different downloads. I don't want to power off my console just yet to test it ;). I waste so much electricity now!

If anyone can confirm the fork of bad update actually increases reliability (I know that is extremely hard to prove with the margin of improvement being 10% and the original already being 30% or less) I'll use it in the new 360 hack pack. I've heard it stutters on stage 3 and that makes the music sound bad but idrc if it potentially takes 3 hours instead of 4 hours worth of attempts as I mute the TV and check the animations of Rock Band Blitz.

You're welcome. I believe those who have contributed or anything else that benefits Bad Update should deserve a mention regardless.

For me it has been stuttering a lot on my end and takes much longer to load. But if anyone wants to post their results I'll be willing to put this into a chart, so that I can come down to a conclusion on what requirements are preferred.

Just releasing stuff like it's 2005 :) Remember Hack Packs for like the PS2? Giving back to what I used back in the day...

Me who remembers the Independence Exploit and Agent Under Fire swap trick back in around 2012-13 knows that feeling. :)

Loved using Playstation Magazine discs as the trigger into Cogswap or CDLoader for AP type titles LOL times was good back then!!!

The 2025 equivalent is using such a disc in the Tonyhax International soft-mod for Japanese consoles. Imagine if the console was uploading data to Sony about usage data and it said "the most playtime this user has is 100% usage of 1000 hours of Dino Crisis 2 Demo" :rofl2:

Yes my friend you are so right all these hacks they be soooooo nice :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2: Now if i could only change that ESR logo into a Black Background jpg that says Playstation 2 white letters that would make ESR discs look so authentic :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:

This all lies in the source code, you'll have to re-compile it to have a custom splash screen.

I hasn't worked for me even once.

Yep, I originally modded my first fat PS2 with Syphon Filter Omega swap. Everyone these days has things easy by comparison, and that's just great.

Just got stuck for me when I tried. No crash, but skipping audio and no exploit launch. I went back to 1.1 after that experience, since at least with a crash I know to start over again.
