Is this video you can see he exits the .xex he ran and it goes back to the main menu.I think the confusion arose from the "non-persistent" part of Ryan's github information on the exploit.
He did say it would go back to normal when powered off though he did not say if the exploit to run homebrew/custom .xex files would disable upon booting back to the dashboard. It would have a been a bit more understandable if he had explained it a little bit more.
Just my perspective.

Yea that'd be nice, but not sure if even possible on a stock unmodded console.I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to patch the home button in the guide to load a different dashboard in ram and I fully expect that to happen.
