All I know is that Nintendo announced they would unveil a whole new Mario game at the Jump Festa, but that could actually be Mario Kart Wii...
Also, Miyamoto said in a recent interview (i'll try to fint it but I don't remember where I read it) that he had been working on something for the DS, so maybe that could be it?

All I hope is they make it a bit more original than New Super Mario, I liked it but in the end, it was not THAT original as far as gameplay is concerned, even for a Mario, yet I do like old-school games a lot. (Please, at least add a flying costume in the next one!!!)

unlike all rumors, Nintendo doesn't make _tons_of_Mario_platformers for every system. N64 have only one. Same about GC. GBA have 1 or 2 ORIGINAL(not remakes). I don't see any reason why they should make an exception for NDS? There are maaany more ga,es Nin should do for console, not only Mario. I mean... Nin! It's time to make new _normal_ 2d platformer DK game! Not that _120_mins_to_compete_ kiddy action-puzzle-platformer!

^Why do you type like this? At first I decided not to read it because it looked like garbage. Reluctantly, I did read it but was quite annoyed that you didn't use "quotations" or bolding to present your points.

On topic: Well, if you look at NES and SNES, there are tons of Mario platformers, so Nintendo doesn't really have a reason not to make any new mario platformers.

I don't know if this helps at all but whenever NSMB came out, I bought a copy that week, and registered it, and a few weeks later I took a poll asking various questions, one of them, "how likely is it that you would purchase a sequel to this game, would one be created?" Paraphrased of course. Sales did fairly well, I'm sure they are at least working on an idea to do something like this.

That is a question on everyone of their polls for registered games.

Off: I think hes using the Wikipedia style of bolding? I dunno.

On: I don't really care if they come out with a 2nd one, or anything else instead, just want more 1st party games :].

Well the NDS has two Mario platformers already plus the Wario, Princess Peach & Yoshi platforming spin offs

As well as platformers they've made tons of other games featuring Mario, in the space of one year they have Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario (two platformers on the Wii already), Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and next year Mario Baseball thing, Smash Bros & Mario Kart plus probably a ton of others on the Wii.

Add that to the hundred odd titles for the NDS and you got one franchise being bled dry and also you have the constant spin offs with other characters like Wario, Peach & so on. I wonder if they have any NEW ideas that aren't just training programs, simulators or rely on some hardware gimmick?

Well, Nintendo is known for doing the unexpected... so gimmicks are always around the corner for them. Sure, they'll probably make new IP, but that new product would also be involved with some sort of gimmick that no one really wants.

New Super Mario Bros was the reason I bought a DS.

same goes 4 me and the rest of the games are pretty sucky
lolz me three

I used to be a mario fanboy (cuz I didn't have much $$ to spend on games but mario was always good) but now that I found out about modding and flashcarts, I've found out theres much more to gaming

Yup, but to be honest, I really think Princess Peach and Yoshi's Island DS were much better than New Super Mario Bros in terms of platformer, with huge levels to explore, collectibles to find, and replay value (unlike NSMB)... so spin offs CAN be better than originals! My opinion...

I actually enjoyed Super Princess Peach alot more than NSMB. It just seemed like Mario was constantly slipping and sliding on ice. Didn't feel or look right.

This was the exact thing crossing in my mind while reading Galaxy DS topic. What will they call it "Newer Super Mario Bros" ?

Warioland DS has a better chance I belive
