I'd say go for an iphone. You will end up using that much more then a handheld console (No, not for gaming, but for lots of other cool stuff you can do with it).

But, they say the iPhone 5 is getting announced in June? (note, I just heard that, havent got a source or anything), and the 3DS is getting released in march..

So, save up till march, even if you got more then enough for the 3DS, and then save up more for the next iphone!

Getting a new phone is fucking retarded, you just gotta keep replacing it all the time because a better one is always around the corner.

3DS.

Uh doesn't Apple reveal new hardware/upgrades annually in September?

Phone will be much more useful for a longer time than the 3DS.

Wait, what? Don't know if it's different over there, but if you're on a contract here you should be pestering your carrier for a new handset about every 12-18 months.

Although if you sign up for a £30 a month contract you'll usually get the handset for nothing, and in some cases they throw in a new toy like a 3DS or a Xbox 360 as a sweetner.

Correct.
I've read rumours about an upgraded iPad coming out in the next 6 months though, but usually, yes.

I went for the Phone by the way. Buy a good one and you'll be set for the next 5 years (if you maintain it properly) You'll always have it with you and there will be games playable on it. Not the same as the 3DS, but still it's gaming and like I said, you always have it with you, very easy

No, they reveal new hardware a year after the previous iteration was announced. iPods in September, iPad in January and iPhone in June

You will be seriously sick of your outdated phone in 5 years. Five years ago, things like this counted as a good phone.

Can't imagine anyone being too delighted if they'd spent all of 2010 with one of those.

In 5 years from now I doubt the exterior of the phones will have changed much.
Maybe 3D will be in it then, but the exterior will still look quite the same as now. So full touchscreen with a few keys under it.

I have this one:

It's 5 years old, it's still a good phone (and I spent 2010. with it), and I see no reason to replace it before it breaks down. And when I do, I'll probably go for this one. Some people might get sick of their phone in a few years, others might not.

Yes, and 3G and WPA2 will be obsolete and your phone won't have the processing power to use any of the apps available. It might still be your trusty old phone, but you won't be going "Wow, my favourite gadget."

3G won't be obsolete, especially not in my slow country.
You may be right about the apps, but if you buy a real top-notch phone (so dualcore), I doubt it. I have the same phone for 4 years now, it doesn't even have Bluetooth and the camera is pissquality. It still works wonderful though and the battery is still top-notch, so I don't see any reason to replace it. It's of course not my favourite gadget, but that's not what a cellphone has to be IMHO. It should be decent quality, have a good battery life and play music. That is all, I don't even need internet and especially no 3G.

Take the 3DS

What use is one of those hypermodern phones anyway? A phone is meant to call and text, I dont understand this whole need to do EVERYTHING on a phone

And a 3DS you can use for games, better and more games then a smartphone (assuming this ofcourse)

If you are going to import get the 3DS (It's region locked and I wouldn't trust the US/EU lineup if my life depended on it)

Otherwise get the phone.

Euhm that would mean he HAS to know Japanese because he can only buy Japanese games because he's importing it from Japan...
And I might be assuming here but I dont think too many people aside from the Japanese read japanese (yes yes on this forum half of the people probably followed some sort of course in japanese but you get my point)

PS. the word japanese has been used to much to be a valuable word in my head.. its an empty word O_O
