What the hell are you two talking about? I haven't messed with it yet becuase my 9 year old has our only gateway slotted right now and doing download play with a friend.

I bought Cubic Ninja for $19.99 off eBay because I knew this would happen. I'm happy I did, because if I waited till I actually have an n3DS to use this one, the price will be sky high due to scalpers. 
all save encryption are with savedatafiler...(well except legit 6.x save encryption, but thats another story)....so i got no merit either way, it does really take 2 seconds
Press select after you click boot gateway mode after the sysnand loads back up and see what happens
8.1 users still have to use zelda oot because of no browser that sucks. I bought zelda oot Japan for 75 still cheaper then cubic ninja

2)format emunand (gw menu)
3)format sysnant (system settings)
4)Update emunand (emunand settings)
and we are set?
I remember that I had to input NNID in both sysnand and emunand after formats. At the moment my n3dsxl is at a state that there is no NNID set at all. After I create emunand and unlink and update it should I create a new NNID just for emunand or do I have to create on sysnand too?

Oh wow, I'm an idiot. The rom selector menu loads up but I don't see the GW3D version tag. Should I be ok to update emunand, or is something still wrong?
no, we dont use the browser exploit for any exploit on N3ds. just scan QR exploit.
I figured this was the case. Did you click format emunand in the gateway menu?
It says it wipes my SD card so I was planning on transferring over my nand backup before doing so.
Pretty good actually, my friend owns JAP CN so I just put my N3DS in gateway mode with his copy and won't turn it off until my OoT copy comes in the mail this Thursday which I got immediately after gateway released 3.1 before the prices spiked.
For non piracy related purposes I'd rather have a legendary game in my collection than some shovelware
Yes make sure you backup your micro sd card first. The only thing that needs to be on it afterwards are the launcher.dat and nand.bin files (which the nand.bin file should also be backed up on the computer since the 3ds will delete it when you format emunand)
That folder is just full of junk since you have never updated your n3ds before.
So I don't have to worry about backing it up then, right? Just the nand.bin on the root?
Between 1) and 2), grab the NAND.bin file from the console's SD card and keep a copy in a safe place.
I wouldn't bother. Your eshop games are normally installed there but obviously you don't have any on n3ds yet
