I have my wii set up in 4:3. I've noticed after about 4 years this is the best way to play all game on wii/ gamecube, except the game that do not support standard format.
The picture is sharp, and just looks "right".
Without HD, imho this is the best way to enjoy the best picture possible icw component cables.
That's why the force ratio opton in usb loader gx is so awesome.

I have tried incorporating this feature (taken from swiss-gc implementation) to DML v1.4b and it works so far (but some scaling looks off as expected). If anyone wants to try, let me know so I could provide the wad or app files.

I'd like to try it!

I'd like to try it!
id like to try it as well.
I'd be interested in trying this, and this would be a REALLY good feature to have once (if) USB loading GCN games is implemented

Go to this link and you could find either the real or sneek nand versions (dml16x9realnand.wad or dml16x9sneeknand.zip) of the modification for forcing 16x9 display: http://code.google.c.../downloads/list

Let me know if you find problems or issues (as an example, pokemon xd intro/selection text could be reversed), or if you want to see/use the modified codes patch file.

Will try the real version right now!

EDIT: First I launched it using cfg usb loader, and something rather amusing occurred. The game text, hearts, items etc was visible but not the game itself, though it was 16:9. Then I booted it through DML booter, and then it worked and in 16:9 with the same graphical errors as I got with Swiss. It's cool though, nice work!

Thanks for posting that conanac. So far I've tried Super Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess - all US NTSC versions. Using the real version.

Mario Sunshine gives the best results for me, it's close to perfect so far. You can notice some rendering in the extra vision.
Although I do have a green bar at the bottom of the screen, any idea what's causing that?

Wind Waker is also working quite nicely, objects and npcs rendering in the extra vision seems more noticable.

Twilight Princess was really buggy, there were lots of graphical errors in the extra vision and even ghosting in the 'normal' 4:3 vision.

Overall it's a great feature.

Using the real version of the modified DML I can confirm Smash Bros Melee works with minor graphical problems in the menus. Some effects such as Togepi turning the screen black only affect the 4:3 area but everything else is visible on the sides. It's definitely the way I'm playing it from now on.

I also tried MGS Twin Snakes but it just hangs at a black screen booting with both Configurable USB Loader and DML Booter.

Thanks conanac for implementing this.

Here are the results I've had with forcing 16:9 of the game I've tried. All games are NTSC.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Doesn't work, green screen)
Super Mario Sunshine (Game runs great. A small green bar appears on the bottom of the screen however and objects will pop in and out on the sides of the screen)
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (Game runs in widescreen perfectly with few graphical issues)
Animal Crossing (The game seems to be stretched like it normally would be without enabling 16:9)
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (Similar to Mario Sunshine, just without the green bar at the bottom)
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (Black bar appears at bottom of the screen. Other than that it looks fine)
Super Smash Bros Melee (Works well except certain areas outside of the 4:3 don't load such as Onett's sky)

That's all the games I've tested so far. If I test any more I'll post them here.

Thanks ♪Sebastian, Fgamer, specht, and Tonitonichopchop for testing this.

It would be helpful if you could dump the memory in the mem1 area (0x80000000) for both the working and non-working games.
If the padhook is working (i.e. you could use a combination of buttons in GC controller to reset/turn-off the Wii), then try dump
that memory area by pushing buttons Z+R+L+B together. The game will be frozen for a couple of minutes and then the Wii will
be turned-off after that. If the dump process is successful, you should see in your SD card the file with name [GAMEID]mem1dump.bin
that has the size about 24MB.

PM me if you are able to generate that file (one for each game) so I could take a look.

Hi guys, I would like to know if someone managed to get 16:9 work with original games. (not DM)

I've installed the custom DM (dml16x9realnand.wad) wad and tried with my wode... but the games still shows at 4:3

Haven't tested it with DML, but I can confirm it works with Swiss. Not all games can be forced to 16:9, though.

Hm compatility is not the best here, melee didnt work, wind waker didnt work, but double dash worked partially.

Tested a few more games. Again US NTSC versions using the dml16x9realnand.

Skies of Arcadia - The game played but no 16:9 unfortunately, stuck in stretched 4:3.

cfg-loader shows gamecube and wii games in the same view, thats normal. WiiFlow can do that too if you have the games on usb in the wbfs folder together with the wii games ;)

What's the config setting to make both show up on boot for CFG loader? I can make both show up only if I start with one drive then manually enable the other.
