If the new DS is going to be a DS Micro, then they'd have to do away with the GBA slot, seeing as the Lite couldn't even successfully fit it in (the cartidges stick out, making the DS Lite weird to fit in a pocket).

I'm interested to see if the supposedly fake DS Lite Compact is real, as that design seems very nice to me and worthy of being the DS Lite's successor.

Also, I doubt they'd add any fancy PSP stuff like movie/music playback.

I don't really see the point of this, I mean the lite is good enough.

Instead of focusing on redesigning every handheld they make, Nintendo should be concentrating on actually making good games for the handheld.

I doubt we'll see another Nintendo handheld for a while yet. Look at the time span between GB->GBC->GBA->DS. As much as I love Nintendo they usually take years between consoles (well apart from GC->Wii) and they like to make sure their horse is well and truly flogged before moving on to the next one.

It's kinda hard when the DS isn't so powerful. Maybe if they released a more powerful DS the games can be better.

It has nothing to do with power.

I wouldn't mind if the games were 2D, as long as they were good, right now everything is pretty much shovelware and most of the good J-RPGs don't even get translated. I just want some good (english) RPGs that I havn't already played to death.

The DS was released three and a half years after the GBA, and it's been three and a half years since the DS was released. I think we'll be seeing a new handheld unveiled this year, and released next year at the latest. I expect this to be a new system, and a DS micro will come later, just like the Game Boy Micro was released a year after the DS.

Nice one, I didn't realize the length between GBA and DS was so short.

Translation projects are huge, only a few games get them.

Meant to be said to Law.

It still isn't the same as an actual translation and it getting published outside of Japan, it's useless to those without flashcarts. Not to mention even the selection of J-RPGs is limited. Nintendo needs to stop messing about and do something to get the good games out there, otherwise the general (American) view of the DS will never change, and the American devs will never stop making shovelware.

Why redesign? They could just make it more powerful, so more powerful = more awesome games. More awesome games = More sales!
More sales = $$$$$

But that would mean the older DS's would get left behind.

what nintendo means is next zelda won't contain the same game play element, ie:
temples, nananana opening chests. get new powerup in each temple. hearts as life. link as main character (grrr ninty if u change this). the standard items which appeared in almost all games: bombs, bow, boomerang. rupees as currency. ganon as main villian. link in green clothes. sword and shield as main weapons. hyrule as main world. point a to point b to point c.

personally I think it's about time we got some changes
smile.gif
would be nice with a wider array of items. orchestra music. less restriction to way of progress (ie remove the need to do point a before point b). different villian (like vaati). more buyable items.

other than an analog stick, there is no need for change on teh design
As hadrian said... it should only be more sturdier with reference to the L and R buttons plus the hinge
And also make the Touch Screen more durable than it is now (maybe the screen should act as a screen protector without having to put one on)

Make it non-linear, you mean

More free-roaming, would be nice.

As would changes to the dungeons ... the way Zelda dungeons work amkes everything waaaay too predictable and easy.

I wish this was another console and not a redesign. I mean yeah, a redesign would be nice but it's not really needed. The Lite is good enough

If it has 3 screens I'm going to shoot myself. You can hold me to that.

2 screens... I wouldn't be surprised but again 2 isn't needed, 1 is good enough.

BUT WE NEED MORE POWER!!!

yeah, more power, compatibility with old games (+ connectivity with old DS's) and more power, the things it could do where enough.

Developing a new system will coast more. And DS is still making good money.
It took me a while find this link but here Iwata: We aren't planning a next-gen DS

Posted in November. They may have changed their minds now. And also he could be lying

Uh-huh, they also denied the existance of the DS Lite, and it was announced like a week later.

Gameplay.

All any games company needs to do is stick to gameplay.

The changes I mentioned earlier are all they need to implement ... longer batter life, fix the sound issues, make the screens & the casing more durable, fix the d-pad issues.

You people want a new machine, and you simply aren't going to get it.

@thebobevil
You're right, Gameplay > Graphics but sometimes graphics affect the gameplay. Graphics make the gameplay look nicer.

Of course, I'd prefer the original Super Mario Bros. to say Crysis, but... good graphics ARE nice.
