I thought this design was the best on there:

That design is unworkble without it costing a bomb. Acrylic is too weak for that design, that's just the first thing wrong with it.
Not to mention it would be a good bit thicker than the current design. Not really the wave of the future.

Think about this topic from a marketing perspective. DS Lite sales are still very strong. Why would they come out at E3 and say they were going to release a new model? Sales of the current model would immediately drop off. Nintendo won't announce a redesigned handheld until sales slump on the DSL, and shelf time increases to an unacceptable duration. Doing it now would be cutting off their own foot.

As much as we can all get excited about the new possibilities a redesign is sure to hold (I heard the new one flies

), it's all just speculation, and unfounded speculation at that.

I just want to emphasis the points that others have already made and say that we wont be getting a new handheld until the DSL stops being so awesome and flying off shelves with in just a couple of weeks.

Also, game support is very strong on this console so...it wouldn't make any since for them them to flip the script like that. and dont most handhelds go for about 4.5 years? DSL still has a ways to go.

Though if they just redesigned the DSlite, then these are my thoughts ON A REDESIGNED DS

-They better make the GBA cart fit properly *grr* (thats the only thing holding me back from jumping to get a DSL though my friend wants one...)
-Come up with some sort of friend code manager (Whose gonna remember 12 digits for EVERY wifi game they own?)

sry guys.

Nintendo has told Eurogamer that claims a new DS model will be unveiled at E3 this year are "purely rumour and speculation".

Word spread after Enterbrain boss Hirokazu Hamamura said he thought there was a "possibility" of Nintendo producing a fresh iteration of the handheld at the event. Enterbrain publishes Famitsu magazine.

And the evidence stops there.

The Nintendo DS originally appeared here in March 2005, before the much prettier DS Lite was released in June 2006.

The handheld has gone on to sell over 65 million units around the world.

Well...Rumors can be true or false...so this still could be TRUE because they state it is a rumor and not a false rumor.

And speculation is what companies do best. Speculation just means they are thinking about it...or trying to find ways...

So as I see it they neither confirmed nor deny it. Probably because the DS is still selling so well that they want to milk it for awhile. Let people keep buying it before they find out they have to get a new console in alittle.

I'm sure if they said they were making a new version of the DS that sales for the current DS sales would go down. Just like most of you wouldn't have bought a Phat if you knew the LITE was coming out. (Unless you reallly wanted that phat)
...its all about keeping us in the dark so we cling to what they give us even harder.
