We have switched to a new ad network just recently. We're still working out the kinks, please bear with us until we're done :)

Known issues, which will be addressed by our supplier as soon as possible:
- bottom adverts on mobile are too big
- <please post in this thread if you are getting other issues>

On most ads you will also see a "report ad" button, please click it to report it, obviously. There's no need to report it again on the forums since we'll only tell you to use that report button.

Also, please keep in mind that these ads arent there just for the fun of it. We need revenue to keep servers going, to allow some staff to get (small) payments to keep the site alive, and ... competitions. A big one's coming up real soon, if you've been following the Switch forums you know what I'm talking about. ;)

  • Please contact our advertising representatives at Playwire for ad rates, packages and general advertising information.
  • All display advertising on our site is managed by Playwire. If you would like to advertise please visit www.playwire.com or email [email protected].

autoplaying video ads? Seriously?

Unfortunately, that has been a thing for a while, but you can turn them off by going to your preferences and ticking ‘Disable affiliate videos’.
That setting has long been enabled for me, but the ad still plays.

What's even worse: If you pause the video and scroll the page, it starts playing again.

I've just enabled it in the last hour and those ads have now gone, maybe try unticking and reticking it may refresh it?

unfortunately, that didn't work. I tried unticking that setting, saving, re-ticking and saving again.

The ad still appears and autoplays about 10 seconds after opening a thread. When pausing the ad and scrolling up or down, the ad often unpauses.

It specifically unpauses when it is visible inline (paused) underneath the "Site & Scene News" and scrolling back up and the ad "detaches" and starts floating in the top right corner, or vice versa. It doesn't seem to unpause when scrolling down the page from the "inline" state, or back up from the "floating" state, when it moves back "inline".

I've had the same thing regarding affiliate videos. Had the setting on my preferences set for a few years now and today was the first time I've seen them. I imagine I can nuke them with uBlock Origin, but worth mentioning anyway.

Edit: Looking at it, it's coming from Playwire. Is this actually the affiliate videos you can disable or is it just a normal ad? If it is just a normal ad and it's making it through various ad blocks, fair play I guess lol.

I’ve blocked the element fine on uBlock Origin. It seems there’s a black square that I can’t permanently get rid of, but the video itself is gone.

I'm afraid those empty spaces are reserved for ads, but your browser is blocking them.
Which still massively breaks usability of the forums. My browser is not blocking them, It's chrome without any ad ons (coincidentally, firefox at home or my phone with adblock installed doesn't have the issue). If anything, the ads are blocked on a network level by our corporate firewall.

It seems that - once again - people using adblock are better off than those without and it is apparently by design that we actively push users to use adblock.
