I'm guessing it's not a hardmod? If I'm right, that's great, but, eh? The N2DS XL is basically N3DS XL minus 3D, the whole "I hacked an N2DS XL" is kind of...not that special given the similarities. Hardmodding is a different story because it's put together differently than N3DS XL, clearly. Just a general observation after seeing N2DS XL hacking question threads pop up.

Their last thread on the n2DS suggests that it might be a hardmod, though I could be wrong.

I use hardmood only to restore nand if something goes wrong
