picked up a ps2 v39001 for 25$ a while back and now i wanted to mod it. the problem im running into is that alot of the guides for that are at best outdated and for the most part require a modchip or taking apart the ps2 to swap out a disc. Was hoping someone knowledgeable could let me know what method is the best for comparability and under 25$ and doesnt require me to take apart the system. tried reading the first post in the forum with how to soft mod a ps2 but it was filled with html crap and did not specify which action replay models worked so wasn't helpful. thanks for any help in advanced

What you're looking for is Free McBoot. It's a memory card based exploit. With it you can load Open PS2 Loader and run games from internal HDD(fat PS2), network SMB share, and I think even USB. The issue is you need to know someone that has FMCB on a memory card and can make one for you, or acquire one. I got mine off eBay. I know what you mean about outdated guides on PS2s...
