i want to use my laptop as a monitor for my ps3 and wiiu so i was wondering is there a way i could use a hdmi-usb for that or (this might sound a little complicated) somehow use a hdmi-rca then rca-usb for this?
(also sorry if i put this in the wrong place im new here)

If by that you mean an HDMI capture card, sure you can (if you can stand the added lag)

Yes, but why? Just use an analog video cable supported by your analog capture card

In either case you probably won't like the performance... the best option to literally answer the question in the title, is to buy an "lcd driver/lcd kit" card, that plugs into the screen replacing the motherboard and converts standard video inputs into raw signals for the panel... and even then, they're not exactly designed for gaming, just to turn a dead/old laptop into a functional TV

It means that you have to read carefully what you're buying, as most "cables with VGA or HDMI on one side and USB on the other" are (bottom tier) graphics cards designed to add a video OUTPUT to a computer

https://www.amazon.it/Nadalan-Scheda-acquisizione-monitor-scheda/dp/B07B5Y82BT
This is a cheap HDMI INPUT option, 480/576p only (and probably of questionable build quality)

This one is equally cheap and goes to 1080i, but you will need cumbersome adapters to miniPCIExpress or to ExpressCard to use it on a laptop

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB3HDCAP-Video-Capture-Device/dp/B00PC5HUA6
These are what you're looking for, but... unless you want to record, it's cheaper to buy an used TV

This (plus a $10 PS2/3 to component cable) is also an option with minimal quality loss, but dodges any HDCP issues the above products may or may not have

Thank you for all your help
guess ill just save up a bit more and buy a new(ish) tv since it seems easier and safer

usually most hdmi slots on laptops are output only and as far as i know only way to actually view the hdmi on the computer is with a capture card
