Need help updating Switch

A year ago I bought a hacked switch (sysnand) and I had no problem installing games with DBI up until now. It says my firmware is too old to install a certain game.

I'm aware that there are a lot of guides but they all seem to have certain differences. Because of that I'm not sure how to procede. I'm new to this scene.

What guide do I need to folow to update my firmware safely?

(I have no intention of using this switch online)

thanks for this, i've dumped my firmware files. but where can i find the new firmware files that are still compatible with homebrew?

We can't tell you where to find them, its against the rules here. Google is your friend.

Not until a game you want to play requires it, no. Example new Paper Mario only requires FW 15+

The update for Hitman: Blood Money Reprisal that came out on May 10 requires 18.0.1 so there are some out there.
